Guest guest
Hi everyone, I havent' posted in a few weeks, and am just catching up on posts. things have still been somewhat crazy with my son, Drew, in addition to my husband being away for work for the last 5 weeks and still 4 more to go. We had a rough Sept with tonsillectomy and then a 2+ week episode with horrible mouth sores and throat that he basically did not eat any solid foods for the entire month (literally, from Sept 1-29). Our pediatrician sent us up to Boston Children's after seeing him once then again a week later and his throat looked worse. They ran lots of blood work again, and still the " normal " stuff- high wbc's, high sed rate, etc. But also had a very high IgE count. Has anyone else had this test done? They said it was a measure of allergies, and he is on zyrtec and I know he has environmental allergies. I am wondering if there may be some other things that may be contributing to the mouth sores, like food sensitivities, and have been keeping a food log. The doc doesn't think food could have caused the high levels, she said that with his level, we would have seen hives if it were from food. Has anyone experienced different foods setting off the sores in the mouth? I am not sure that I want to push for allergy testing, as he has been through so much recently, but it would be nice to know what there may be an allergy to so we could try to avoid it. I am just trying to make sense of these freuqent sores and if there could be something that is triggering them, as they are so frequent. He was full of sores for the entire month of sept, had a few days off, then a few more sores for about a week, another few days off then started up again yesterday with 4-5 small ones. The doc also gave me a new gel to put on it- Kenalog with orabase- anyone used this before? Thanks to everyone! mom to Drew, age almost 3 town, RI
Guest guest
My daughter also had an IgE done but hers was normal. They did it because she had so many GI symptoms and a history of hives as early as 3 months old. She to was placed on zyrtec as a trial and it did nothing for her. I would recommend a consult with a pediatric allergist, one that specializes in food allergies might be a good idea but they are more difficult to find. Guest guest
HI, Breana has a high IGE and low IGG's....can I ask who you sqw in Bosotn? Was he admitted? If your doc is interested he could consult Breana's doc's as they have been dealing with her for 3 years and were not at all afraid to say they needed help and end us to NIH! They have kept in close contact with Dr. Kastner. While they may always be able to tell me why somwething is happening or they may not know exactlky how to treat some of the symptoms they treat her as they present, and will call Dr. Kastner wif they need to...or even consult other doc's.there It must be so hard doing this aloe with your husnabd away....my prayers go out to you TRacy > > Hi everyone, > I havent' posted in a few weeks, and am just catching up on posts. > things have still been somewhat crazy with my son, Drew, in addition > to my husband being away for work for the last 5 weeks and still 4 > more to go. Guest guest
Yes my son also had a high IgE. The doctor had said it was a " gut " allergy (whatever that means). He really does not seem to have allergies except once in while he will get red eczema patches on his face which seemed to be brought on after drinking milk but not always. Anyway we have not pursued it any further. But that is interesting there are other children that have elevated IgE. Guest guest
High IGE is is one of the immunoglobulins.... It is an indicator specific for allergies.
