Hello.

It is common with Prednisone to see an immediate wonderful result... and

within the next episode the child may have to have the medication repeated

within24-72 hours. This happens to some children. It did happen to my son.

And it continued. Now with some children it only occurs a few episodes and

then one dose may work well.

Each child is different.

I could not use Prednisone as it made ph's fevers come closer and closer

and we were giving him way too much.

I treated with Motrin... alternate in 3 hours with Tylenol then in 3 hours

Motrin... around the clock for 5 days. (set the alarm clock!) During the

middle 3-4 days.... as a young infant and toddler he stayed around 103.5 to

105 when medicated... I would use cool cloths on his head and neck and kept

the rooms in the house quite cool... He would ALWAYS dehydrate... every

three weeks as an infant and young toddler we would visit our local ER where

we were known on a first name basis and hydrate with IVs.

It did get better as he hit 3 and understood the importance of sipping

fluids... He never ate food for the 5-6 days of fever... and nibbled a

little 2-3 days after.... His fevers came every 21 days using this method.

It was rough... but definitely got better with his age.

I was tired... but I did it. I am a single Mom so I slept with him... as an

infant I placed a sofa in his room... and as a toddler and now at 5 he

sleeps in my bed when he is fevering.

I was blessed as my pediatrician and the guys in his group always were there

for us... We were ALWAYS seen within a couple of hours the day I called if I

was uncomfortable with his temps... and I was blessed with an ER where the

ER docs listened to me... although we did still get 3 spinal taps because

they were so afraid of missing something after reviewing some extremely high

WBC's and Sed rates....

ph's temps almost always elevated to 107... and went as high as

107.5....

God Bless

Oh Fran thank you for answering. It sounds exactly liek what

is doing! You know I was just wondering last night how single moms do

it. It sure is hard work. I really hope to hear from other moms if

they are doing the same thing and if their childs fevers get as high.
