Guest guest Posted June 12, 2004 Report Posted June 12, 2004 Hello, My name is Bonnie and I have a son Grant, now 3 yrs 2 months, the youngest of 5 kids. He is a very Happy healthy little boy but has had periodic fevers since he was about a year old. It took us about another year to notice the frequency of the fevers. We investigated allergies, ear infections, etc. When he was about 18 months I started circling the dates he was sick on the calendar and noticed it was every 21 days. The Doctors at first just kept saying he was catching a virus. But he really wasn't ever " sick " . He has only had one cold since he was born. I began to do the research myself and narrowed the possibilities of what it may be done to about 3. We switch pediatricians and thankfully, our new Dr., a very young Dr. who did his residency at Vanderbilt, was very aware of . With only a blood test we were able to rule our cyclical Neutropenia and a few other ailments. So, it is. He gets a sudden high fever of 103-105 every 21 days. The day before he tends to be weak and complain about his eyes hurting. At the onset of his fever his glands in the back of his neck get really big and tender and he complains of his neck hurting. Usually he has at least one cancer sore and complains of his tongue hurting. I try not to give him too many drugs like Advil and Tylenol unless the fever gets above 103 or he seems to be in too much pain. We plan our weekends around his out breaks that happen every third weekend. The time between fevers lengthen in the fall to about 30 days and if he does get sick it seems to shorten the time between fevers and make the fever higher for the next few cycles. The last few times his tonsils get covered in white spots. We have not tried the Steroids because I don't want to risk having the fevers more often. Also, we are investigating alternative health means to see what we may be able to do to lower the fever and reduce symptoms during a fever and perhaps stop them all together. I love to read and am so curious what the doctors think could be causing this. I am so thankful to have found this group and am excited to read about your children and families, what similarities we have, what you are doing to help you child. Thanks, Bonnie Quote
