Dr. Goldberg told me that Splenda is fine.

Splenda

Can anyone clarify for me whether or not Splenda is OK to be used on the diet?

Thanks!

Here 2 website links with info on the safety aspects of Splenda. Other links

on Splenda aplenty but if you look into it, those have some commercial gain

in using/recommending this product. I tend to listen more to the warnings

and unless all those warnings have been disproven, I'd rather not use it.

Hannake....Re: what you have just written.....listen to the warnings if

they are scietifically sound.....the site you posted about aspartame is

just the opposite...

the dangers alluded to by these people are nothing more than a

perpetuating urban legend....aspartame has been tested and retested and

tested again and has been found to be completely safe for human

consumption...no law suit or action has ever been sucessfully brought

against Monsanto, nor has it ever been proved that aspartame does bodily

harm.

Take a moment or two to read the posts I sent in opposition to the

claims made in the site you sent. These sites ARE supported by

scientific research by reliable, known and respected institutions.

Aspartame is getting a bad rap erom a post originally circulated by a

person (who doesn't seem to exist) back in the mid'90s and you are just

perpetuating the myth...

Don't believe all you read on the web.

Thank you for these web sites. I have looked at them and think I will no longer use this product. This stuff is so confusing especially to my blonde brain.LOL

...those two web sites are actually by the same organization and

are from people who support holistic medicine....actually the only claim

they made is that splenda...sucralose which is made by introducing 3

chlorine molecules to regular white sugar (sucrose), there-by increasing

its sweetness many fold, has not had the testing they thought it should

have...like aspartame it is FDA approved and you shouldn't let people

with their own adgenda sway your decisions. This doctor is a holistic

practicioner who is pushing his own newsletter...one which puts down

other perfectly safe items as somehow harmful to ones health. While his

newsletter is free it tries to sell his herbals etc. I looked for sites

with scientific testing results but got tired and couldn't find

one...however let me repeat.. thes two sites are from people with their

own adgenda and are not scientifically grounded.....just their opinion.

They don't even really say that splenda is bad for you since they don't

know themselves. Don't take the word of every person who writes on the

internet....except me of course.

There was a bit of discussion on Splenda a while back and some of us

wondered if it would feed yeast...

This morning I called the Splenda " 800 " number (found on the Splenda box)

and asked the company if Splenda could be used to " feed " yeast (when baking

with yeast). The customer service representative said that Splenda will not

activate the yeast so if you want to use it in baking you have to add

another source to activate the yeast (she suggested a teaspoonful of honey).

It seems logical, then, that it will not activate yeast in our children as

well. Hooray!

No, the reason for the caution is there have been recent studies (don't

know how valid, just presenting the info, you can decide for yourself),

that it isn't as harmless as its touted to be. Believe me I was really

bummed about it too!

Here is one article (again, please don't shoot the messenger!):

Also, do a search on Jim Bowen and Splenda for more info.

I've finally gotten used to liquid Stevia. Its taken almost 6 months

but it satisfies my sweet tooth in yogurt. I'm planning on trying to do

some baking with it this weekend.

Oops, also meant to add that its not the causing harm to candida that is

the issue. This warning applies to everyone. Its not about sugar

levels, its about possible kidney, liver and thymus damage. Just goes

to show that there is always some consequence for messing with mother

nature. ;)

Thanks for the info on sucralose. The website didn't say how much was given

in the animal studies. In some lab studies they take hundreds of times the

amount you could ever eat and jam the mice full of it. And then they report the

" surprising " results when the mice develop problems. I think almost any

substance will have detrimental effects at incredibly high levels.

There is a sweetener called " Ketosweet " that is glycerine based. You might do

a web search on it. I've tried it and it's very good.

What you are saying it that Splenda feeds the Candidiasis... is that

correct?

No. As far as I know, it does NOT feed the candida. But it can be

damaging to the liver, kidneys and thymus. And this damage is

irregardless of whether or not you have candida. According to the

research, its not much better than NutraSweet or Sweet and Low as far as

being a healthy sugar substitute. The warning has absolutely nothing to

do with candida directly.

>>>Has anyone used xylitol?

Prue -

Yes, I bought some from VRP, and I use it to make lemonade. So far, I like

it. The flavor is great. I think it has a little controversy surrounding

it, but not as much as Splenda. On the Mercola site, at the end of the

" Killer Sugar " article, Dr. Mercola gave Xylitol a good endorsement. I also

bought some for my mom for Christmas, because she is borderline diabetic and

I don't like that she uses Aspartame in her drinks.

I'm wondering if a little usage of natural Honey isn't the best way to replace

[ ] Splenda

Hi,

I have been doing a lot of research on diet because I know that I don't eat

well and whether or not it helps my RA - I still intend to do a change in my

diet. I recently found a lot on Splenda and unfortunately, the reports are not

good. If anyone wants to know more they can email me personally but here is a

good website on it.

Hi Rick,

To check for problems, the half-starved animals were given all the

suralose they could eat. That's a far cry from someone over 100

pounds using it as a sweetener at under 20 mg per dose.

Hi again Duncan.

I'm not trying to start another argument, but could you're defending

splenda have something to do with the fact that it's in at least one

thing that you sell?

A lot of us are here because of all of the chemicals that we have put

in our bodies. Why add another one?

Hi Rick. Splenda is in one thing I sell, and I have a natural,

additive free version of that too so it's a non-issue.

The issue is purely one of dosage. Think about the LD50 dose for

humans, and the kilo or more per day that would compare to the rats

eating it as a staple food, compared with 2/10 of a gram.

> A lot of us are here because of all of the chemicals that we have put

Splenda is sucralose isn't it? That's a sugar alcohol that passed

through the body without accumulating to a significant degree. But my

point was with regard to accuracy of information regarding the dosage

used in the rat studies as opposed to a sweetener dose.

I'm not a fan of Splenda

it really isn't something that appeals to me

it is a processed product that is further processed

i.e. processed sugar treated with chlorine

If I am filtering chlorine out of the water I drink and bathe with I don't

want it in the foods I eat

I do fine with a touch of stevia now & then

I also find that other things like spices add a broader range of flavor and

can impart a sweetness to really WEAN one away from the sugar mania...I happen

to really enjoy using a mixture called garam masala: cinnamon, cardamom,

cumin, coriander (McCormick even has a blend you can buy on the spice rack - but

I

blend my own from spices from the asian grocery nearby) I shake this into LOTS

of things, veggies, rice, green tea, oatmeal, on meats...I really don't miss

all the sweet orientation I used to eat anymore.

Betty i, and more recently, Mercola, employ questions,

suspicions and innuendo in their language, to skew public opinion like

any other propagandist.

It hardly qualifies as an expose or as evidence.

I don't use sugar or sweetners on my food generally but I do expose

myself to sucralose in milligram amounts because it's in a couple of

products I use, and I think my body can get rid of it.

Beware the agenda sites.
