Guest guest
I applaud the PSA by Autism Speaks. It certainly made me cry. Having sent it around to many family and friends today, I have already received feedback on something many of us tend to forget: those not affected by autism have no idea how bad it can really be. The PSA serves a great purpose in educating those who do not understand autism. I feel less good about what the PSA does for parents of autistic children, aside from providing all of us with a sense that our plight is being heard. How interesting to contrast this video with the video produced by Bernie Rimland and DAN! of Lou Diamond interviewing recovered children. Today, we could produce hours of video showing before and after footage of recovered children. Wouldn't that be even more compelling? Autism Speaks, we would be happy to provide you with the parents who would happily share their stories with the world. It's a great first step, a great public service, but the other story needs to be told, too. Children recovered biomedically is the trump card that no amount of denial or obfuscation can ever cover-up.
