In the book -- is autism a total mystery; i.e., no known cause and no known treatment? I do not mean to be negative, but I just can not seem to read or watch anything with that theme. I don't usually like to sit and read a book- but I couldn't put it down. It read like a movie and I could totally see it being made. Maybe could star in Evidence of Harm too? lol

Vera,

It's more of a drama, then a book about autism. The character talks about vaccines and the diet a few times- but the cause of autism is not the center story. It's about how autism tears the family apart and the things the mother does to help her son. She tries alternative behavior therapy.

She also juggles her son's needs with the typical sibling. There is also a love story thrown in there (my fav part). It's a very hopeful book and some messages I got were to " not give up " and to listen to your gut. Just because an expert says your kid belongs in an institution-doesn't mean you give up and accept that fate. The book was funny (times I laughed out loud) and it was interesting how people in England deal with autism. It takes place there- the Mom is from America, but married a guy from England. I think most of us parents who enjoy this book because you understand the character. You see parts of yourself in her. That doesn't happen very often.
