Fluid on the knee

On Wed, one of my nurses over stretched my knee while lifting me out my

wheelchair. I felt something pop when it happened. A few hrs later my knee

swelled

up and I've been putting ice packs on it and wrapping it with an ace bandage

at night. Well here it is Fri and my knee's still swollen. It hurts like

hell even when still! I can barely get dressed or use the bed pan without

screaming. SO I went to a doctor today to see what he had to say. He said I

definitely had fluid on my knee and he wanted to draw the fluid out, or give me

a

cortizone shot. He felt since it has been only tHree days since my injury, he

held off on the shot. I kept telling him the Motrin wasnt touching my pain

and all he did was give me a stronger anti-inflamatory. Now the hard part is

fully trusting that nurse again to lift me safely w/o hurting me. Has anyone

else had a similar issue w/ being hurt while lifted and having to rebuild your

trust w/ that person?

Sincerely,

s, the Unique Princess.

I never had an aide hurt me when lifting me, but I had one drop me. The

aides I now have don't lift me, they use the Hoyer lift. It's great when we're

home, but not when we're out. They can't lift me on a toilet. I did have a

physical therapit hurt me terribly once. He stretched my hamstrings too much. I

also heard a pop and had a swollen ankle. It was hard for me trusting another

therapist.

I hope you're feeling well soon, .

My pain persisted so bad that I went to urgent care Sat. One of my regular

docs came to give the urgent care doc some history on me. The doc examined my

knee and said it needed the fluid drained off. I fell in love w/ this guy! He

told me he could drain it w/o causing me much pain and if it hurt to bad we

could stop. I loved knowing I had some control. He was concerned about

draining it due to my contractures. He said if he got back bloody drainage,

then

that means significant trauma was done to the knee. Sure enough, the drainage

was a dark red color. He said he can tell it was old blood that sat in there a

few days. So the next step is to get an MRI of the knee and see exactly

where the damage is. Of course my parents are advising me not to tell this

nurse

that hurt me all that I've gone through over the weekend. They think she'll

feel so bad that she'll walk off my case. I see their point, but I think she

should know so she realizes how serious this is. A lot of time when I complain

of pain, she says Im being dramatic. I'de like different opinions on this.

I agree that the nurse should be told. My suggestion would be to have

her advised by another involved professional whom you trust, rather than

by you or your parents.
