I had some pulmonary function tests today and was kinda of wondering

if ya'll know what your vital capacity is. I know we have talked

about this in the past but I hadn't been tested in so long that I

didn't remember what my numbers were.

The RT said something about my VC being 680 and something about

27%. Not sure how good or bad that is.

Any input from ya'll would be great. Thank you!

Hi Lori!

I had to have pulmonary function tests before all of my surgeries and my

vital capacity was 49% and my saturation levels were about 99-100% throught

my treatment! It is something I don't worry about as as mine has dropped

over the years I have never really felt any different! I think you just

adapt..the only thing I did notice was I can't sing and hold a note for as

long but that might be a blessing for those listenning lol ;-)

Thank you and everyone for the feedback. I'm actually not worried

at all about my numbers but was curious how I compared to others. I

haven't had these tests in many years but needed them to accompany

my request for a cough assist machine. The RT kept saying how good

my numbers were and I was thinking to myself 'man, I hope they're

not too good to get the c.a. machine.' I can't cough at all and now

I can't suction my trach independently anymore which will be

problematic at work. So, we'll see.

  • 10 months later...

wow thats total bs that they cant do a pft w/a trach. all they need is an

adapter to connect ur trach to the tube where the mouth piece would be. then u

keep ur mouth shut and they nose clip u. if u have a cuff some drs want it

up, but i personally do worse then. have them call childrens hosp of

philadelphia PFT lab if they cant figure it out. that's where i go. i dont

know the

name of the adaptor hope this helps.
