My question about various seeds in soap has produced a bunch of

answers all of which indicate that they do, in fact, create an

exfoliating soap. That's not what I'm looking for - I just am trying

to figure out how to " dress up " soap besides swirling! Any ideas

would be GREATLY appreciated.

In particular, I just received some fabulous star anise EO that I

ordered, and am trying to figure out what the soap should look like!

For soaps scented with star anise EO, why not stick a whole anise star on the

top of each bar ... but make sure you let customers know they should remove the

anise before use. :)

I make a licorice soap with anise and sweet fennel. Where did you get you

star anise? I make it white with a black swirl. I is really striking. If

you add about 1 to 2 % bees wax to your soaps you can polish them and that

also makes the swirled soaps look great. Confetti soaps also have eye

appeal. Beveling and stamping might also dress up a bar of soap. This what

I can think of right off hand. HIH

Jane,

Putting in seeds, dried herbs, flower petals, etc. does dress the soap up as

well as adding exfoliation. There are also soap stamps that you can use to

make an impression on the surface of a bar of soap. You can then leave them

plain

or color in with micas. Some people sprinkle botanicals on the surface of a

batch of soap, so it's not incorporated into the bar, but merely a " dressing "

on the top. My suggestion to you is to look at as many web sites as possible to

get ideas. Also, some people have beautiful labels, and the ends of the soap

are all that you see peeking out, so they don't really need much decoration.

Have fun exploring! Jill in CA
