Guest guest Posted February 10, 2006 Report Posted February 10, 2006 There was a great thread going here a while back about all the exercises that you can do just with your body weight. I'm sure someone remembers where that is. Or maybe try doing a search for it. Lunges, push-ups, bench dips, plie squats(super slow and deep) just to name a few. Guest guest Posted February 10, 2006 Report Posted February 10, 2006 Thanks for thr information. I wish the board had a better search function so that it could be more specific. > > > > I'm going to be at a conference from MArch 4 - March 8. Guest guest Posted February 10, 2006 Report Posted February 10, 2006 a few ideas: buy an exercise band - they're very portable and you can do a lot of exercises with it... Here's some sites that I've saved in my favourites... http://www.leeapperson.com/cables/ http://www.michaelsena.com/demo.htm http://www.cbass.com/Furey.htm http://www.shapefit.com/quick-workouts-elastic-bands.html Hope that helps. Guest guest Posted February 10, 2006 Report Posted February 10, 2006 Also...you might check with the front desk or concierge at the hotel to see if they have free passes to a local gym. I manage a hotel and we just have a cardio fitness center at our hotel. To compensate, we have worked out an agreement with the local YMCA to offer free passes to all of our guests. Many hotels do this. It's definitely worth asking. - > > > > > > > > I'm going to be at a conference from MArch 4 - March 8. > > Unfortunately, > > > > the hotel that we are staying at do not have a fitness center. > > Now, > > > > I'm worried because I don't know how I'm going to get in my > > weight > > > > training (I go to the gym and use machines and free weights). > > Does > > > > anybody have any suggestions for ways I can get my workouts in? > > > > > > > > Please help. > > > > > > > > > > Quote
Guest guest Posted February 10, 2006 Report Posted February 10, 2006 A jump rope is a great portable way to do your cardio. Or if the weather is nice you can walk/run outside. But I found I didn't like that when going to strange places you never really know what the area is like. Guest guest Posted February 10, 2006 Report Posted February 10, 2006 Here's an old post about how to get in some strength training with no weights while traveling. Might give you some ideas. ~~~ There are a ton of body weight exercise you can do - push-ups, bench dips, squats, lunges, pull-ups. You can also buy some resistance tubes or bands and put them in your suitcase. Also, look for anything heavy in your surroundings that you could hoist around - water jugs, rocks, children. You can still get a killer resistance workout with no weights. You just have to be a little creative. If I were trapped in a hotel with no equipment I would do: push-ups (all variations, wide for chest, narrow for triceps, decline with your feet up on something) pull-ups (if I could find a playground with a jungle gym) bench dips (sit on the edge of a chair or bench, grab it with your hands, drop your butt toward the floor and raise yourself back up. It's easier if you bend your knees and keep your feet flat, harder if you straighten your legs and put your weight on your heels or up on something the same height as your bench) walking lunges (back and forth across the room) hover squats (squat and hold it for 5 sec at the bottom) plie (wide) squats (toes out like a ballerina, clobbers your inner thigh) hip abductions (hold onto a door frame or counter, stand up straight, keeping your leg straight, raise it out to the side 15-20 times, switch sides) hip extensions (hold onto something, stand up straight, keeping your leg straight, take it straight back, you only need to raise it a foot or two to really feel it in your glutes) Do the extensions and abductions slooooowly and squeeze at the top to really make it burn. calf raises (just hang onto something and raise yourself up and down) wall sit (slide down a wall and sit in an invisible chair, thighs parallel to the floor, knees aligned above ankles, hold it as long as you can) It sounds tame, but if you're not used to the exercises or the high repetitions, it will set your muscle fibers on fire. You can do it a number of ways. Like just do as many reps as you can of each exercise, rest a minute or two, do the next exercise. OR, you could do say 20 reps, next exercise, 20 reps, next exercise. No rest between the sets and you could repeat the circuit a couple of times. That would keep your heart rate up and give you a little cardio benefit as well. Guest guest Posted February 10, 2006 Report Posted February 10, 2006 A lot of time when you travel you are going to do a lot of walking, so much of the time that takes the place of regular exercise when I travel. If you can manage to eat fairly clean, the lack of regimented workouts shouldn't be a problem during vacation. Over the years I've simply enjoyed myself, eaten clean, and forgotten about any workout beyond the constant walking. Stasia Quote
Guest guest Posted February 10, 2006 Report Posted February 10, 2006 I am currently traveling right now... I did have access to a gym... but got back late last night and only could get there for a short amount of time... so I did the STAIRS in the Hotel stairwell. Thought I was gonna D-I-E. I did 32 flights up, then back down. That'll really sock it to ya. GREAT cardio workout. Also, you can do the lunges, squates, pushups and such in your room. Isn't BFL totally, but you are getting something cloe enough done. Do more reps/set. Bring a band too... that would be easy to pack! > > I'm going to be at a conference from MArch 4 - March 8. Guest guest Posted February 10, 2006 Report Posted February 10, 2006 Hey , Thanks for the advice. I called the hotel (Hilton Arlington) and they say that there's a gym about 1 block away (Sport and Health). They give free passes for members in their Hilton rewards program (which I am not), otherwise I have to pay $15 per visit. I may just suck it up and pay the money for my strength training and see if the conference organizers will reimburse me since they are reimbursing us for travel. > > > > > > > > > > I'm going to be at a conference from MArch 4 - March 8. > > > Unfortunately, > > > > > the hotel that we are staying at do not have a fitness > center. > > > Now, > > > > > I'm worried because I don't know how I'm going to get in my > > > weight > > > > > training (I go to the gym and use machines and free > weights). > > > Does > > > > > anybody have any suggestions for ways I can get my workouts > in? > > > > > > > > > > Please help. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Quote
Guest guest Posted February 10, 2006 Report Posted February 10, 2006 Thanks Kanala, these looks good. I may just buy a couple to use at home. How do you like the stretch bands for your workouts? > > > > > > > > I'm going to be at a conference from MArch 4 - March 8. > > > > > > > > > > Quote
Guest guest Posted February 10, 2006 Report Posted February 10, 2006 Thanks. How do you find these old posts? I can never find things using the search feature. > > I'm going to be at a conference from MArch 4 - March 8. Unfortunately, > > the hotel that we are staying at do not have a fitness center. Guest guest Posted February 10, 2006 Report Posted February 10, 2006 You can always join the Hilton Honors program for free...then get your free passes to the gym. I think you can enroll online at www.hhonors.hilton.com. That way you should have your card in time for your arrival. > > > > > > > > > > > > I'm going to be at a conference from MArch 4 - March 8. > > > > Unfortunately, > > > > > > the hotel that we are staying at do not have a fitness > > center. > > > > Now, > > > > > > I'm worried because I don't know how I'm going to get in > my > > > > weight > > > > > > training (I go to the gym and use machines and free > > weights). > > > > Does > > > > > > anybody have any suggestions for ways I can get my > workouts > > in? > > > > > > > > > > > > Please help. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Quote
Guest guest Posted February 10, 2006 Report Posted February 10, 2006 Carley, Great idea. Thanks everyone for all the great suggestions. I was really started to feel nervous about the trip, but now I see I have a lot of options. > > > > I'm going to be at a conference from MArch 4 - March 8. > Unfortunately, > > the hotel that we are staying at do not have a fitness center. > Now, > > I'm worried because I don't know how I'm going to get in my weight > > training (I go to the gym and use machines and free weights). Guest guest Posted February 10, 2006 Report Posted February 10, 2006 YES!!! Thanks. I never thought about that. I thought you had to pay to be a member. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > I'm going to be at a conference from MArch 4 - March 8. > > > > > Unfortunately, > > > > > > > the hotel that we are staying at do not have a fitness > > > center. > > > > > Now, > > > > > > > I'm worried because I don't know how I'm going to get in > > my > > > > > weight > > > > > > > training (I go to the gym and use machines and free > > > weights). > > > > > Does > > > > > > > anybody have any suggestions for ways I can get my > > workouts > > > in? > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Please help. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Quote
Guest guest Posted February 10, 2006 Report Posted February 10, 2006 I'm subscribed to the women's club under my gmail account. You never have to delete old e-mails. They label themselves, sort themselves into threads and become Google searchable. It's pretty slick. Google definitely smokes the rinky-dink search function on the site. http://mail.google.com/mail/help/about.html On 2/10/06, rai_rai_luver <rai_d@...> wrote: > Thanks.
