Guest guest
I have always believed in school uniforms. However, this is not so good for the businesses. Think of all the money spent on clothing? Magazines and television fuel this lust for fashion. Show your attitude! Express yourself! (By wearing the clothes WE tell you to wear!) ha! It has always been that way. I once read a novel ( " A Polish Soldiers Tale " ?) written in the 1400s. The author mocks the men and women always looking for the latest fashion. Tolstoy, in " War and Peace " , does the same. Think about this. How many of our acquaintances will spend $120 for a pair of jeans? I will talk to people on Monday about their weekend. " Oh, I spent like $400 on clothes. " Can you believe it? Living in Malibu, I really get to see materialism. Prada, Kate Spade, Gucci. At my university, nearly every day is a fashion show. What is really funny is that fat people who dress up are still fat. And without all of that, attractive and fit people are still attractive. Unless the person is wearing a suit, clothing doesn't seem to matter. One reason many people oppose school uniforms is they really do FORCE us to look at the persons body. If everyone is wearing similar attire, there is a consistent frame of reference with which to compare our classmates. No bright colors to distract our eyes. No flesh to distract us from what we should care about at school, namely the person's mind. Still, the fleshly distraction soon fades away. The irony of ironies is this: men and women who are educated and sophisticated become more attractive not only in my eyes, but in the eyes of many of my friends. Investing $12 in a copy of Aristotle's Nicomachean Ethics, Plato's Dialogues, or Heller's Catch-22 will make a person MUCH more attractive than that any fabric. If we are talking about a meaningful relationship, a rational person would likely go for the educated person. Hell, even my stupid acquaintances prefer a girl with confidence and something up top (above chest level!). Maybe people who have never dated someone really hot will always covet. But ... God help you if your life becomes relegated to mornings of coffee, bagels, the NY Times, and a dunderhead sitting across the table from you. Now THAT is American Beauty! " I have thrown the dog this crumb. The truth is the dog likes Snickers, too. But truth does not feed a dog. Justice is when the dog is fed. Do you understand?
