Guest guest
Hi Everyone, I know we talked about Miranda Esmonde-White recently. Today was my " fusion " day so I picked her Classical Stretch workout to do. This DVD also has another workout - Athletes Intense Stretch, both workouts are about an hour long. The Classical Stretch workout is a blend of toning and stretching. It is hard to describe - you can see ballet, Pilates and Tai Chi influences in her exercises. Plus, there is an element of athletic stretching. She used to be a ballet dancer, so the addition of the ballet moves make sense. She is not the best cuer, but I kind of like her personality - a little bit scattered, but " real " - although the plugs for Schmink cosmetics can get annoying (there is only one in the original Classical Stretch workout!) I've reviewed this one before, but it was a long time ago. The workout starts with some standing movements to loosen the joints - this is probably the most Tai-Chi-ish, she does circular movements with the arms and torso. After that she does her sequence of un-weighted arm exercises which are torture, but you do feel very stretched out afterwards and your muscle burn while doing them! Amazing that you can feel that much without lifting a weight. After arms she does some plies and then on to " barre " work (she uses an adirondack chair for her barre - she's outside on a beach for the whole workout). For barre work she does some leg lifts and some stretches. Floorwork is Pilates-style leg work, abs and more athletic style stretching. I went into the workout with my hip/SI joint complaining and I left it feeling good! So her techniques do work. I have such a cranky SI joint - housework is the biggest offender for putting it " out " - unfortunately, with all my critters I need to sweep often otherwise we'd be over-run with hair! I used to have her back pain/stress relief workout, but I can't find it now. I bet I traded it. I also have her arms & abs/legs workout (it has two half hour workouts on the DVD - one for arms/abs one for legs). I'm hoping to go through my collection a bit this weekend, my books and shelves are a mess and I'm having trouble finding stuff! DH is going out with a friend Friday night (gee, why do all my outings with friends involve playdates? ) so I may use that time to get organized after my DD goes to sleep. I could wrap presents, too - but I'd rather go through my workouts, LOL! Miranda suggests doing her workouts three times per week. I'm thinking about it b/c my hip/SI joint go out all the time and I'm hoping that these can help. It is just hard for me to find the time to devote to these workouts when I want to do my strength/cardio stuff, too. I may try to break her Athletes Intense Stretch into three parts - I think there is a standing section, a barre secton, and a floor section. Maybe even a little bit will help. I'm happy that one of the presents I picked out for myself for Christmas- Yoga for Strees (?- I think that is the title) lead by Barbara Benagh (who leads the Body Wisdom - Power Yoga for Every Body and Yoga for Athletes) has a segment for the SI joint!! I saw a thread about it on VF and it is a 35 minute segment. I'm looking forward to trying it! I've really enjoyed Barbara's yoga style. Anyway, I'd better run! Hope everyone has a great day.
