Guest guest
Hi Everyone, I pulled out a virgin that arrived yesterday for this morning's workout. I had very high hopes for this DVD since it contained cardio kickboxing (my favorite!) and capoirera (sp?). Maybe my high hopes were the reason why I was somewhat disappointed in this one. The kickboxing section is not as intense as I had hoped and really didn't have anything new or different - there wasn't that much pizazz to it - it didn't have the spirit and enthusiasm of Tae Bo, Turbo Jam or even Cathe's kickboxing workouts. I am surprised this one was rated as " advanced " by Collage - I'd put it more into the intermediate category. It wasn't bad - just nothing special, some of it actually reminded me of the Body Wisdom workout I did on Wednesday. I may get more out of it on a second go since I'll know what is coming up and I may consider using handweights to up the intensity. The combos are more athletic than dancey which works for me - but they're not all that interesting plus there is the lack of " spirit " I made it through the cardio really looking forward to the capoirera sections - but I found those to be disappointing too. When Chalene does them in Turbo Jam they flow really well and it does feel like you're doing a combo of a dance and martial arts (which is what cap is, isn't it?) In this section Sherri just repeats the same four moves over and over again (I think 4 times) and it has more of a toning/athletic feel than a dancey-martial arts -flowing feel. There was one interesting move at the end for upper body - hard to describe but you put one hand on the floor then bring your leg across and bend the opposite knee. I know I'm not explaining it well - but it was challenging and different. I will probably feel some of this tomorrow from the sheer repetition of the moves - unweighted lower body work does that to me! But, again, it just lacked something! (Note to : if you have any influence over Chalene please tell her to break away from BeachBody due to their pyramid scheme and produce her own workouts - I want more from her - especially more capoirera but w/ BB's new scheme I doubt I'll order from them anymore!! Tell her as long as I have disposable income I'll buy from her! ) Anyway, I'll probably keep this one in my collection and do it again - as it is nice to have some different kickboxing workouts other than Tae Bo and Turbo Jam. And, while I love Cathe's workouts - some of them are too painful (Kickmax) to do very often. I'm hoping that adding handweights and being more familiar with it will make me enjoy it more. Also - for some of the moves, you may have to move some furniture - particularly one kicking and punching combo - it isn't a huge space hog, but it depends on your set up as to what may need to go. Sherri did a decent job of cueing and her backgrounders were fine. One showed some more beginner type modifications by using a reduced range of motion and not jumping as much - but this wasn't really emphasized during the workout. Take care!! Guest guest
Donna, I love reading your reviews! They're so detailed and interesting! This doesn't sound like a workout I'd go for (at this time anyway) but I still really enjoyed reading about it. I'm glad you noted the space considerations too. I'd love it if workout that require more space than usual would say so on the package! Guest guest
Thank you, ! I, too, would like to know about space before buying a workout. We moved this summer, to a smaller house on a bigger lot (we were previously in in a larger townhome, but had no property and no place to play outside in our yard - plus the yard was a mess from having a dog, if you get my drift!) It has been a wonderful move, I love looking out of my window and seeing nature but I lost a larger workout space - right now my space is odd shaped and I always need to move the loveseat out of the way (It is part of my warm-up!) I miss having my bigger space sometimes, but I like having land around me with squirrels, bunnies, birds, etc. better! Plus, this summer, I'm thinking of taking some of my workouts outside to my patio for fun! Take care, Donna --- nancydewolf <nancydewolf@...> wrote: > Donna, > > I love reading your reviews!
