Heidi, If that's true than what it actually indicates is that both can cause diabetes, as a UNECOM study was able to induce diabetes in rats by feeding a high-sugar diet, which poses no confusion with gluten. OTOH, if this study induced type 1 and the study I'm referring to induced type 2, that would make sense that gluten would induce the former, maybe by anti-pancreas antibodies or something, and sugar would induce the latter, as it makes little sense to me for sugar/starch to be able to induce type 1, and likewise little sense that gluten could induce type 2. The type 2 in the rats was reversible while taking them off the high-sugar diet. It was also preventable with fish oil even with the high-sugar diet. Fish oil could not reverse it however, only dietary modification. The fish oil reduced the risk of heart disease and also reduced triglycerides, but they said they had no conclusive evidence that reduction in heart disease had any relation to the reduction in blood triglycerides.
