Guest guest Posted August 4, 2006 Report Posted August 4, 2006 Hi Elaine I know how worrying this is as too is pretty compulsive eg OCD. She is high Strep and DR U reckons for us her OCD is Strep. Have you tested lately. Also dont overlook the obvious like teeth, ear infections, bashing fingers... I would test maybe a stool sample if you could if that has been a problem in the past. Also GABA is calming... If you think its realted to the NCD pull back and re-start I think many have experienced this. Maybe he is de-toxing too fast, its pretty powerful stuff for some kids. One more thing. We are about to try 2 new herbs supps one is called Samento (Amazonian seemingly!) and the other is Barberry Root, one is fro Candid the other for Strep (Gamma Haemolytic, we have). I think the Samento is for the Strep, just going out just now. We are going to do week on week off with them both for 3 months on Dr Usmans recommendation. Sorry not massively helpful... One other thing, any chance it could be impaction with pain bites her hand too. Thinking of you Caroline, Aberdeenshire xxx Quote
Guest guest Posted August 4, 2006 Report Posted August 4, 2006 Hi all, I’ve posted this on the VB list to see if I can get any responses from a behavioural perspective – but thought I’d pick your brains out there as well. Really getting worried about Callum’s behaviour lately – past couple of weeks have been particually bad. We’re currently using NCD – but after a fantastic start – we’ve had some real problem behaviours and we’re on a break now. He’s constantly biting his hands – pulling at the skin and it’s now getting infected. We’ve tried all sorts of strategies, but none have worked – impossible to take data on as it’s virtually constant – I know he’s doing it in bed, because I can hear the sound that goes with it. Has anybody had similar problems – do you think the OCD could be strep related? I’ve tried talking to him, social stories, his receptive language is advanced enough to comprehend it’s wrong and doing him harm, but he is compelled to do it;-( any ideas would be really gratefully received! Thanks, Elaine Quote
Guest guest Posted August 4, 2006 Report Posted August 4, 2006 Caroline, thanks so much. I’ve been researching all morning and all the symptoms of PANDAS fit what he’s going through – how the hell I didn’t recognise this before I don’t knowL He’s normally such a happy kid, and now he’s miserable as hell– although he has been suffering with back teeth coming in the other symptoms of Pandas are just shouting at me. It seems a lot of docs use intravenous pooled immunoglobulin (IVIG) and plasma exchange (PE) to treat it with good results. Dr Usman used to be my doc as well – I know sometimes she likes the alternative route a lot more. I’ve stopped NCD for a while, and have a doctor’s appt on Monday, because we’re going to have to put in place something for him to stop biting his hands or the infection is going to get worse. BM’s have been good in the last 6 months (constipated for years and years before). Thanks for the thought as well, feeling really low today – funny how they improve for a while and not everything in your life revolves around treating, researching or thinking about autism – and then the damned thing rears it’s ugly head again and you’re back to square one.
