Thankyou Joanne for this post.

I would show it to the paed if I thought it would do any help, but she's a hardened case! (perhaps she needs some movicol herself!)

Hi everyone,

We have had the same situation with

. We and the hospital have

been treating for diarrhoea over the last 18 months (with the exception

of last September when an x-ray showed that he was loaded and given movicol. For movicol was a

nightmare.). Anyway last Monday he

got another x-ray and he had a very bad impaction, which was also palpable. He went back to hospital on Tuesday and Thursday

for enemas which yielded a great result. He was a little star.

Anyway I am now post enema and trying to

keep him moving. He is on oxypowder,

as of last night 4 caps. But I gave him a micralax enema on Tuesday night as he

was obviously becoming constipated again. With a good result. My question is of those of you who are in the same

situation, what are you doing to keep things moving along and has anybody used

regular enemas. Obviously it is

going to take months for his bowel to get back into any sort of shape so your

advice and experience would be great.

Impaction Loading ...

Hi to all.

It is becoming increasingly apparant that our kids are having

impactions and loading of the bowels.

Is it me there seem to be more cases ?

or is it that people are looking for it now ?

Well anyway I just wanted to forward this message on to you all from

a parent of an asd child who is 18. This parent is also a GP.

Her son has suffered for years.

I have her permission to post.

Please feel free to use the following.

Our 18 year old son, Josh, has had unexplained tummy pain for

years. I am a GP and have explored all avenues to help him

medically.I recently learnt a lesson I thought others may benefit

from. Despite the fact that Josh is slim, has a flat tummy free from

any palpable lumps and passes large and soft stools daily, an x-ray

of his abdomen showed a loaded and very distended bowel and rectum.-

He clearly is extremely constipated and in need of laxatives even

though I would not have expected that from his clinical condition

Anyway that got me thinking that maybe my son Darryl was case for it

now that so many others have it.

and I hate the not knowing bit..

So off I went to A & E last night..

He has had looseish stool with a few lumps for the past 10 days.

not been 100% percent for a while but with chelation on the go and

really good gains from it..I put up with it.

I told the Dr he had been crying and saying poorly tummy and believe

me Doctor if he says poorly tummy he means it cos she doesnt say

much .

I told him ASD kids are now presenting with impaction / loaded

bowels (several faeces blocking it up so liquid goes around)

and he lay him down and felt his tummy.

He thought nothing to worry about.

I said ..look he has a history of bowel issues..he is under the

gastro consultant at this hospital and he has a history of parasitic

infections and inflammation so would he please x ray him to rule

loading / impaction out.

He was very nice..agreed to do it.

And hey presto - hes loaded ! well its not severe thank god but

enough to suggest movicol .

and give the man a medal , he even offered to stool test him.

with 2 samples for bacteria and parasites - whether they wil find

anything is another matter.

I am going to oxypowder him for a week.

But just thought you all should know..and that if you can get

someone to agree to an abdominal xray its worth it.

Good Post and I think that there is lots of this around but people dont know it. has gone to the toilet almost every day which does not suggest constipation to many people. Examining a childs skinny flat and soft tummy does not mean there is no impaction, the number of times I have been told this by medics I just tell them to shut up they are wrong and to x-ray her... well you get my drift.. Always there has been impaction when we have eventually suspected this.

Its the normal stste for these kids, for sure and I guarantee that a huge percentage reading this will not even know that there child has this. It beggars belief how this is not an ongoing monitored situations for kids with autism. The last night had impaction we treated this for 2 weeks, then she hurt her leg and had tio have a hip x-ray you wont believe what we saw when we looked at the x-rya you guessed impaction...

at DR Balzolas talk on Sunderland on Friday he said that kids can be 1) asymptomatic 2) negative for markers of Inflammatory Bowel Disease yet still when scoped have lesions, erosions, high percentage of Lymphoid Nodular hyperplasia its incredible yet 100% of the time to date they have found this...

How can we make medics understand this, it makes my blood boil....as you might have guessed.

Rant over, gotta go but message is check this out everyone if there is even the remotest chance it could be your child. Its life changing and I mean that literally with bowel issues, impacted, bugs etc is from hell. Poor soul and right now, different child. Long may it last

Soup burning really gotta go...

Hi

Thanks for that Joanne. I am quite new to the group but have had my 2 year old son under Muscroft (who is an angel and is fantastic!) for the last 8 months on a biomedical programe. He like most of our children has lots of bacteria and yeast overgrowths, but dispite lots of different suppliments in high quantities we have been fighting the flames but unable to put the fire out if you like as his stool tests still show lots of very high levels, which due to the amount of anti bacterial and yeast suppliments he just should not have by now. suggested he could be blocked, Calum is very thin and has a soft tummy, he fills (sorry!!) two to three nappies a day so I trust and her experience 110% but thought I really do not think he could be, she suggested Oxy powder (as we did not want to waste weeks waiting to have an x-ray and oxy powder is very safe) and we have had him on 3 capsules a night for the last 3 nights....well, each morning I have gone into his room and his has had quite an explosion in his nappy and cot!!(do not want to put you off your lunch but I know you can imagine!!) I would never have guessed that all that was stored inside his little 2 stone body!! Poor thing! He has such a high pain threshold as he too has bowel problems. Calum has overnight become happier, calmer, responding to his ABA tutors so much better he WANTS to sit at the table and work and his words have increased (he currently has 100 words since MB12s were introduced 4 1/2 months ago another story!!) he is now putting 2 to 3 words together, saying everyones name which a few days ago you had to prompt. I just wanted to share with you all that your child does not have to have a hard football tummy or have trouble going to the loo to be compacted and it is such an easy but very messy thing to sort out!

Hope I have not gone on too much I have never posted before!

Hi

, you really haven’t gone on too much. Your post has really helped

me. we’ve been having mega problems getting an xray for Tom. we finally

got one and the report comes back as probably fine but inconclusive because the

child wouldn’t comply. He was wriggling and screaming but they didn’t

tell me at the time that he hadn’t complied – I thought I’d

held him down enough – I would have stayed there all day and my husband was

only a couple of feet away – he would have helped! They are now saying he’s

fine – end of story but I just don’t believe he is. So you have got

me thinking that I could consider just putting him on Oxy powder anyway. I’ll

have a word with Jean. Thanks for this, Sara x

Thank you Joanne for this. Ever since I read 's post I

decided to ask my ped for an xray of my son's belly. We have bowel

problems I cannot get a handle on but always assumed that the gnerally

soft belly (at least when not constipated) and some formed BMs

(however random they seems to be) meant an impaction was impossible.

Now I think I should rule it out with certainty with the Xray. Best

case scenario: at least I'll have one less thing to worry about.

Thank to you Joanne and for sharing,

How does oxy powder differ from Movicol? It sounds like washing

powder! Tom still not clear and I don't want to keep on movicol-ing

him for weeks if I can avoid it

>>>Sam has beautiful poops since HNI, formed medium brown sweet smelling and coming regularly at least once and maybe twice per day.

Everything Kirgsman presented on during A1 (I watched the DVD yesterday) was Sam to a tee. I never thought of him as a gut kid, his flora was a mess and he was leaky for sure per testing but he has never postured, cried out in pain etc but I am thinking we should consider it anyways???

I will ask the Heardster perhaps to examine him when we go in August?

Hi

I have no idea having never used movical but I can tell you a bit about oxy powder (if I sound like an advert it is because I am quoting from their leaflet!!!) it is a powerful intestinal cleanser formulated to melt away and oxidize compaction in the bowel, providing oxygen to the intestine and bloodstream. It does not just clean the colon, it cleans the small and large intestine as well, without the side-effects of laxatives. It removes old, impacted fecal matter and detoxifies and cleans the entire tract. It helps to restore balance to the digestive tract and help initiate normal bowel movements. Oxygen which is a good free radical, is needed by the body to bond with and neutralize toxic compound.

I hope this helps a bit.
