We have a ( just ) 16 year old severely autistic non regressive

non-verbal, non play skill non most things, sometimes loving, at the

moment going through a spell of nasty nasty aggressive stuffs son called

Ralph. We have tried all ABA, VB, Sonrise type stuff with nothing

positive happening. We haven't tried chelation because he is so

sensitive to everything (massive yeast overload from CDSA test ). The

only good thing we have done so far, is to remove all starch carbs from

his diet. we are currently seeing an MD homeopath, and I am

experimenting with ( making/designing )Hulda type frequency

medicine devices because I feel so desparate.

I am the johnny come lately amateur here but if cutting out starch

is helping have you tried probiotics/enzymes? we've just started a

Klaires detox support probiotic ($52 a pot!) that has really reduced

Tom's angry outbursts. or if it's not that, it exactly coincides.

Tom can be a grumpy bugger but he's 7 and the size of a 5 year old.

One day he will be 30 - he won't be as manageable then. A lot of

what we're doing is about making him public-friendly. I'm sorry you

have agression at the mo - might be bacteria but at 16 might just be

teenage hormones.

Hi ,

have you had an OAT/stool analysis done? Asking 'cos sometimes

Clostridia can cause agression. Sac.boulardii (friendly yeast) and

LactobacillusGG are both said to help fight it, as well as staying away

from rice and other complex carbs.

, here something I posted a while ago just in case it might be of help for you,

Natasa

=============

I saw this post (on Amy Yasko's forum) and thought it might be of help for those who

have kids who do not seem to respond to treatments, or respond

negatively. Hope it helps shed some light...:

The most important caveat in moving forward to step 2, which begins with

methylation support is the presence of a CBS up regulation. Children with

suspected CBS up regulations run the risk of creating additional sulfur

groups and ammonia in their system by methylation support if they have not

first addressed the ammonia/CBS issue. IF you suspect that your child does

have a CBS up regulation, I would suggest running a DDI urine AA test so

that you are able to look at ammonia levels as well as taurine levels. If

you are finding elevated taurine and ammonia in the high range of normal,

you should consider waiting to add methylation support until you have

confirmation of a CBS up regulation and have addressed this issue.

Children on low protein diets may not show elevated ammonia; however if a

urine AA test shows low levels of all amino acids, with the exception of

taurine and mid range ammonia levels this should also be considered

suspicious for a CBS up regulation. It is more difficult to discern a CBS

upregulation with low taurine. Suffice to say that if you are seeing

elevated ammonia regardless of taurine levels you should consider waiting

for the nutrigenomic results before progressing to step 2.

If you do suspect that your child has a CBS up regulation and have been

supplementing the methylation cycle, please don’t despair. It is okay if

you are doing this. I am trying to fine tune and make suggestions to

optimize programs. I am simply suggesting that there may be more ideal

supplements to use while you are waiting for your nutrigenomics if you

suspect that your child may have a CBS up regulation.

There are supplements beyond step 1 that CAN be used in the interim so

that you are moving forward while you wait. The use of the gut program, in

conjunction with CCK/BioThyro is an excellent choice for moving forward

before methylation support. This combination will aid in the

detoxification of aluminum and help to balance the gut while you are

waiting to address microbial and heavy metal detox.

The use of mitochondrial support is also helpful in supporting the system

for detox and energy support while waiting to add in methylation support.

Of course as I have repeatedly said in the past, take this time to be

certain that you have adequate step 1 support as described in the

Supplement video and the Boston DVDs.

If you believe that your child does have a CBS up regulation you may want

to consider limiting protein as well as the lipid supplements in the diet.

I find that children with CBS up regulations have trouble with lipid based

support as well as with sulfur based support and protein. I believe that

the lipid problem seems to stem from decreased BH4 activity regardless of

whether or not there is an A1298C mutation. The excess ammonia that is

generated via the CBS up regulation can be thought of as "using up" the

available BH4. This leaves less BH4 for other functions such as serotonin

and dopamine synthesis as well as to work with GEMO, a BH4 requiring

enzyme that is involved in lipid processing.

The CBS up regulation generates excess sulfur groups, so added sulfur

based supplementation is also not ideal until the CBS/ammonia issue has

been addressed..

If you find that your child does have a CBS up regulation, then I suggest

that you consider starting with the program to support the ammonia/CBS as

the very first step once you receive nutrigenomics that confirm this is

the case. Then you can look toward methylation support once you have

addressed the more major issue.

The CBS up regulation acts like a drain, pulling added methylation cycle

support (ie high dose folinic as well as even low dose folapro) down

through the transulfuration pathway to generate excess sulfur, ammonia and

drain the BH4 via the urea cycle. IF we first address the effect of the

CBS up regulation, then we are in a better position to support the

methylation cycle and other mutations in the pathway without generating

non ideal byproducts.

I hope this helps you to have a sense of how to move forward while waiting

for your GAR and nutrigenomic test results.

I was hoping you were not going to ask that :) ... one of numerous

genetic mutations that predispose one to autism. That is not to say that

lots of NT people don't have them, just that the combination of those

with others and with environmental influences... you get the picture. Dr

Amy Yasko talks about this a lot, and this particular mutation is

particularly tricky as according to her it makes individuals sensitive

to lots of things and they usually don't respond to treatments until

that mutation is addressed first. Having said that there was a heated

discussion on another board recently where a DAN scientist, Owens,

sort of discredited Yasko's approach and protocols as not having a real

scientific grounding ... go figure.

To get to the bottom of it one would probably need to have a phd in

biology or whatever, but here is her 'science website:

http://www.holistichealth.com/genetics.htm

if you are interested to find out more there is a parents forum

Oh boy, sorry to hear. We are also having to deal with bad gut issues.

I have read several some reports that manuka honey helps with lots of

'difficult' bacteria. We tried it a month or so ago for a few days and,

coincidence or not, after three days ds developed high fever and

regressed a bit. We stopped honey and he came out of it. Then few weeks

later the same story. Really high fever and bad regression. Lasted a

week. Could be a coincidence. But could be that this honey set something

in motion, same way as people reports happens with antivirals. Either

way I would be too scared too try it again, but there you go.

Hi! I am one of the new people who recently joined this group!

My name is Rita and I live in Italy. I have a 7-year-old ASD boy. He has been a patient of Pfeiffer Treatment Center (Illinois, US) for 2 1/2 years, but now we have no more the possibility to go there again and do all the required tests (because of financial problems). Even if our son improved in this period, we do not know if it was because of Pfeiffer's protocol. In the same period we also started ABA, we did AIT and since November we have started RDI (with great results). Our son still has short attention span, sound hypersensitivity, he is hyperverbal (echolalic, repeating scripts from videos or books).

We now have the possibility to have our son visited here in Italy by either Dr. Megson or Dr. Mumper (who will come to Italy to visit some children). I would like to know if anybody here in the list could just give us an advice about these doctors (we have to choose one!).

Thanks to everybody,

Rita

Loads of new people good, hello!

I know that lots of people have joined in the last four weeks or so. Not everyone has posted yet and it's always great to find out who you are, who your special person is and what you hope to gain. And of course I personally welcome scandal, gossip and cocktail recipes involving biomedical treatments particularly peach flavoured Nordic naturals. We have a 7 year old, Tom, profound regressive ASD but gaining lots of skills on biomedical...Steph x

If she's going to be in italy perhaps we could use cheap flights to go and see her there? Are her consultations/tests expensive?
