Hi all, I just joined your wonderful group and am anxious to get

started brewing my own kombucha. I have been researching it a bit

after reading nourishing traditions and making radical changes to my

and my family's diets. I am looking for a local source but have

some concerns & questions before I start.

The first concern is I have 4 children, 2 of whom are allergic to

penicillin. My 7 yr. old has been struggling with staph infections

for over a year now, and while it seems to be subsided for the last

couple weeks, I would like to try using kombucha to heal her if it

comes back again. My question is that with her allergy to penicillin

is there a risk of her being allergic to kombucha? How would I go

about finding out without endangering her health? She's been on

antibiotics so much for this infection and I would really like to find

a healthier way to cure her.

Thanks for any help and advice!

Belinda

Hello,

You can be allergic to darn near anything. Does your daughter have an

allergy to black tea or sugar? Dr. Batmanghelidg, the Water Cure doctor,

says that allergies are a sign of dehydration and that children are

constantly dehydrated because of the amount of energy it takes for them to

grow. (One of the ways that the body gets energy is by splitting the water

molecule, or hydrolysis) See:

www.watercure.com and www.watercure2.com

Also, with kombucha, people often mistake a healing crisis / detox reaction

with either contamination or " the kombucha made me sick. " Kombucha is a

diuretic and can make people more dehydrated; most of us are dehydrated, so

it can make symptoms worse before they get better. Some folks have

unpleasant smelling gas for a week or two before their systems adjust to it.

I am allergic to penicillin and some years ago I drank TK and got no

allergy to it. But I can only tell my experience and maybe it is better to

get more advice.

Belinda,

I would say that this is MOST unlikely.

My husband is allergic to penicillin, but has absolutely no problems

with Kombucha...and he drinks lots.

The problem lies with the antibiotics, I am convinced of it and found

that out through bitter experience.

My youngest son (now 12) had a phase when he went through ear infections.

At that time I had already made up my mind that I was not going to go down

the antibiotic way again ( he had had antibiotics for various other things)

I asked the doctor not to prescribe antibiotics for him but something

'natural'. She must have thought me stupid whe she handed me the precription

with a well known brand name for penicillin on it.

I neither got the antibiotic, nor ever went back to that doctor, went

to the alternate healthshop and bought a garlic based product recommended

for ear infections etc. It worked fine.

I didn't understand about the detox and probiotic effect about Kombucha

then as I do now, but allowing the body its own time to get rid of

inflammations will challenge the immune system to get working. That's

what it's there for.

Antibiotics will take that job away and also kill not only the bad

bugs but also good bacteria especially in the gut.

Probiotic drinks like Kombucha, Kefir, water Kefir and there are many more,

will strengthe the body's natural defence mechanism to get up from being

lazy to get to punching them baddies out.... and don't forget the water -

so simple and simply powerful :-) the great flusher!

So, you can give Kombucha in small doses (a table spoonful each time)

3 times daily and gently increase after a few days. Get your

children to drink water as often as possible and avoid artificial drinks,

fizzy pops and the like.

Patience is also important. Drugs often produce rapid results, but in the

long term are not good to deliver the goods. Because the immune system has

not been built up... when the next dose of germs comes along you'll find

yourself back at square one again.

Belinda, have also a look at the following site which will be helpful

to you as it has been for me:

Wishing you all the best, with God's blessings,

Margret:-)
