Guest guest
I am always hesitant to venture an opinion about many OCD related things as I feel not very experienced as OCD was only part of our lives (about 3months) for such a short time and I have not experienced many of the things that I read about but one thing we all share is the pain of what is happening to our children and the willingness to do ANYTHING that will make them well again. I keep up with this list so I can continue to educate myself in case this enters our lives again. I have been reading about many who are going to therapists and the children promising (while there) that they will do this and that and then not follow through. It seems to me that they are possibly not ready at this time for therapy and it must be pointless going if they are not co-operating. I have learned that as mothers we would suffer their pain if we could, drive a million miles to get the right help any many others things BUT the one thing we cant do for them is their therapy. We can love them, sympathise with them, support them, help them but with therapy they have to WANT to do it and then follow it through. After all the whole point of therapy is to help solve the things that are affecting and happening to THEM. I know it's a lot of work and they would probably rather be doing other things but my daughter looked at this way and these are HER words, you have to suffer the pain for the big gain. Before we went to therapy I gad an idea of what the process would be for ERT but had no idea if it would work but we told our daughter that it would work and it would take a lot of time and effort on her part (little did I know then that we would be walking up and down the hallway for 60 minutes a day and then washing hands and shaking them dry for 30 minutes). So my comment would be that if they cant or wont co-operate with therapy at the moment save your time and your money for when they ARe ready, Hence my opening statement, You can lead a horse to water but you cant make it drink. Dont know if this will help anyone but I felt compelled to write this. Kerrie
