Guest guest
n Your lipid profile is ideal Cholesterol/HDL ratio - 1.68 Below average CVD risk HDL Percentage - 59.5% - well below average risk LDL/HDL ratio - .68 - well below average risk I do make the above statement with ONE caveat and that is assuming that any of this goofy lipid profile junk is even worthwhile. Meaning that it may all be meaningless, however in the event that it has merit, by modern day medical standards your lipid profile is pristine. Tell your doc she should only be so lucky to have such a profile. ;-) DMM > Question for everyone. Guest guest
<any of this goofy lipid profile junk is even worthwhile> I would have to say that I really don't pay attention too much to my blood profiles (I didn't check my levels until 3 months after it was run if that says anything), but at the same time they seem to mean a lot to the people around me. My PCP is not thrilled about my diet choices...she would rather me go low fat (ugh). My friends and family look at me like I have 3 heads, ect. My DH just sighs and thinks it is a passing phase. While I am doing this lifestyle change for my own benefits, convincing my DH to join in with me, convincing my doc that this is the right path for me, and convincing a family member or two to join in to help their medical problems would be great. Going solo on an endeavor is difficult enough....going solo with everyone around you calling you crazy doesn't help. So I guess I grasp at any good news I can until my physical medical problems start subsiding and I can point to them as well. I spent the weekend learning how to make several things....fresh butter, kefir, whey, beet kvass, and a few other things. I had to choose a time with the DH is out of town...it is quieter that way. I am sure when he comes home tonight I will get the 'what the heck is this' comments right away. He doesn't tell me NOT to do things, but it will take awhile for him to come around. Took him about 6 months to come around on raw feeding of the animals. Thanks! _________________________________________________________________ Great deals on high-speed Internet access as low as $26.95. https://broadband.msn.com (Prices may vary by service area.) Guest guest
When I got my bloodwork done it was way high and this is what finally helped me. http://www.westonaprice.org/askdoctor/ask_cholesterol.html Hope this helps, ~Del > Question for everyone. Guest guest
Well n you now have all the " ammo " you'll ever need. Next time a well meaning friend or family member wants to give you a hard time just pull out your lipid profile and say " hey what's your look like? " ;-) Keep up the good work. > <any of this goofy lipid profile junk is even worthwhile> > > I would have to say that I really don't pay attention too much to my blood > profiles (I didn't check my levels until 3 months after it was run if that > says anything), but at the same time they seem to mean a lot to the people > around me. Guest guest
Recently I went for a full body scan at one of the open MRI places. For $600 they did a full 3D body scan and looked at every organ and bone in my body for abnormalities and tumours. Part of that they check plaque build-up in the arteries. It is a visual test, you can actually see the plaque in your arteries. They are able to calculate total % of blockage and based on age and statistics your chances of having a problem in the future. I came out with " %0 to %5 " catagory, the doctor said " whatever kills you it won't be a heart attack " . My total cholesterol has always been very high near 300, HDL very high --
Guest guest
Make sure that you had nil by mouth before a cholesterol test - things like caffeine, etc skew the results and can make it seem like you may have high levels when you really don't. For a book on how to manage health with nutrition pick up The Food Doctor by Vicki Edgson - they are London based and great, Vicki is my nutritionist (no longer with Food Doctor, but still great in private practice). - Donna from London
Guest guest
That's what I figured, but wanted to check. If this is common, I would imagine that lots of people are getting lots of bad advice from doctors by focusing so much still on LDL and total cholesterol.
