Guest guest Posted August 27, 2005 Report Posted August 27, 2005 Colleen, Good luck with Jon and school, some kids are able to do well at school in spite of OCD. However, if things don't go well, I believe most all of us here have dealt with school & OCD issues, so you'll get loads of comments/suggestions in that area! didn't have thoughts of harm when he was younger (now 16) but at preschool & elementary age, he had lots of reassurance questions, asking the same again & again. At that time, I didn't realize that could be part of OCD. For him, he was greatly interested in his body and would ask about every little thing he/it felt. Would ask how long cut/scrape/blemish would be there. Would ask if something would give him cancer. Would stay over-interested in little cuts, etc. I still recall the soccer game where he was holding his finger & kept staring at the cut (or whatever) instead of paying attention to the game he was in, would keep getting distracted by it, LOL! One thing with OCD thoughts, is that the person will NEVER act upon them, but that doesn't make the thought any less disturbing I'm sure. Here is a good site that has some articles that might be helpful. There might be sentences/portions you might read to your son to help him see how common this is. The article " A Touching Story " applied to my son. http://www.homestead.com/westsuffolkpsych/Articles.html Well, have to go finish supper, more later!! > Thank you so much for the warm welcome!! My son has had a few ocd > ticks as a small child 4-5 but that went away, now that we have moved > (only a few blocks mind you) it has just really taken a hold of him. I can't imagine doing 2 hours of cardio back-to-back. Your resting heart rate must be in the 40's...LOL... Darcy On 8/30/06, Sherry <fanaticforfitness@...> wrote: Thanks for the welcome! Guest guest Posted August 30, 2006 Report Posted August 30, 2006 I don't exercise as much in a week as she does in a day. LOL I don't have that kind of time to devote to it without giving up my job and maybe sleep, too. Re: Thanks Wow. Guest guest Posted August 31, 2006 Report Posted August 31, 2006 LOL......You guys crack me up. No I don't break it up through the day. I I usually do it between 9 and 10 am and get done around 12 to 1pm. Withe kids going back to school I will need to do it in the late afternoon because my work schedule will change to mornings which I dread because it's easier for me to get it done in the am. I will admit that my exercise feels like a second PT job....lol Maybe as I get older I will learn to ease up. I think I have a big fear of gaining weight because I became slightly over weight once I hit my 30's and I had been thin all my life so once I started losing I just added more to my routines and now its a habit I can't break. Sometimes I feel it rules my life but I guess I could have worse habits....lol Once I get the pics on my digital camera of my kids I will post some. I'm so glad I joined this group. Talk soon Sherry > > Monday- 2 advanced tae bo dvds back to back > > 30 min of straight abs > > 45 to 60 min of lower body work with wieghts (squats, > > lunges, leg lifts ect.) > > Tues- 45 to 60 min upper body work with weights and an hour cardio of > > my choice, either 5k power walk outside, step, or dance. > > wow!! thats alot of workin' out! 2 to 3.5 hours 6 days a week. > do you split these workouts up over the day? > :*carolyn. > Quote
Guest guest Posted August 31, 2006 Report Posted August 31, 2006 Sherry, I just started working out again.... and I want to get to that point. I rather exercise as many hours as you and be fit and healthy than my current situation right now. " YOU ARE MY HERO! " (((Knees on floor bowing))) :-)) It's funny somehow after I hit 25 and evil fat twin appeared during my pregnancy and took over my body!! She is still here today (I'm 34) and refuses to go away. So now I'm starting to run away from her and taebo the heck out of her, hopefully I loose her along the way and never see her again ;-) I really enjoy this group. > > > LOL......You guys crack me up. Guest guest Posted August 31, 2006 Report Posted August 31, 2006 hi sherry, i think that if you can maintain 2 hours a day(i wouldn't go with more then that personally speaking) for a while then its fine but pick a week or two here and there to ease up and give the body some time to rest from it all. you actually get better results if you push yourself hard then take a rest(hence a day or two of rest between weight workouts/body parts). for me i do cardio and weights in the morning for about 35-70 mins then 20-60 mins of yoga or pilates before bed. it just all depends on whats going on and how i feel. have a great day kassia How low will we go? Guest guest Posted September 1, 2006 Report Posted September 1, 2006 Sherry, I went skating today with our homeschooling group! I forgot how much fun that was!! I felt kinda weird because I was the only mom skating - but I had a blast! Yesterday I only did my Tae-bo - but today I'm really energized and I'm about to do my Tae-bo and my 10 Min solution abs and toning. Today I fit into a size 12 comfortably I didn't have to lay flat on my back in my bed and suck in the gut to fit in anymore!!! Ya know what I mean ;-)?? boy... my husband gets a kick out of that he just laughs and shakes his head. Quote

Guest guest Posted September 2, 2006 Report Posted September 2, 2006 Sherry, Yes I started homeschooling in Aug... Actually is not bad! My son has ADHD so I wanted to take him off the Meds. When two Psychiatrist told me that most of the time they outgrow the ADHD and that the meds are usually for the teacher to control them (his is mild ADHD)- that was it for me. I have discovered many wonderful things about my kids that otherwise I would not have noticed. I haven't mentioned this but both of my kids are doing tae-bo with me! My son is a black belt in Taekwondo so he corrects my form and my daughter is a white belt - she actually does the 10 min solution with me too! she has a six pack and I tell her I want to be just like her - she loves that! it works out well because I can count that as their physical education and it motivates me to do it for them as well. Another reason I am homeschooling is that we are moving to Sardinia, Italy in Jan (Military move) so the transition wont be as hard and that will give me the freedom to travel with them.
