Hi, I'm Jenn, age 35. I've been married 15 years this June

and have two daughters, ages 8 and 12. I have a form

of Muscular Dystrophy called Spinal Muscular Atrophy

type 2. Because of this, I am basically a quadriplegic, with

limited use of my right arm, and use an electric wheelchair

to chase folks around. I also have clinical depression and

anxiety, which often is harder on my family than my

physical disabilities.

> Hmmm Chasing folks with the wheelchair? That would be

> some entertainment!!! :o)

It does make for some humorous moments. Unfortunately, my

kids learned at a very early age how to get into corners where

I couldn't get to them. My oldest, as a toddler, would run to

these places and giggle at me.

> Have you had this your entire life???

Yes, I was born with it and never walked. I used to be stronger

when I was younger. It is a progressive illness, but

thankfully it seems to progress very slowly.

> Is your family supportive???

It took my biological family some time to come around,

especially about me becoming independent and then

getting married. My husband is very supportive. I think

my depression/anxiety bothers him more than my MD.

Do you have in home help???

Not really. My husband is my sole caregiver, but he

works 40 hours a week, takes night classes twice a

week, and has to work on a house we inherited about

an hour away from us every Saturday. My kids do

a lot of chores and are very independent, but they are

kids and have their moments, especially with my

oldest turning 12 soon. I have a very good friend that

comes every Saturday to do housecleaning. She keeps

me sane. Currently, we also have a friend, whom my

husband calls " the homeless lass, " that has been

sleeping in our living room for the last 6 months. She

helps me run errands. And finally, friends rent the

upstairs apartment of our duplex, and the husband,

who is writing his thesis, is often around in case of

emergencies. But consistent help for physical care

besides my husband, no.

Wow Jenn,

You have a house full!!! Little ones learn early how to get around the parents! But it is amazing some of their little tricks too...

Its hard on parents letting the children leave the nest, and with you being medical I can see where their fear would come from... But you sure sound like you have it all together!!! :o)

Sounds like your hubby has his hands full... Tell him I give him a Big Gold Star!!! Is there any services in your area that can help you out when there are no family or friends available that day???

My grand daughters turning 12 next week, she of course thinks she knows Everything!!! But she's a sweetie, she helps grama out a lot...

Hi Helen! Glad you are back!!!!! Ok for Role Call.....I am Rose and I

live in Portland OR with my sweetie , my 18 year old son

who graduated early from High School and will walk with his

class from Weston High School in Arlington WA on June 14th. s

two boys who I consider my sons, 19 and 17 live in Oregon

also but not with us at the moment...long stressful story there.

Anyway I am 49, a native of Chicago IL. I have Rheumatoid arthritis of

the cervical spine, agoraphobia with panic attacks, and bi-lateral

epilepsy that I have had since I was 17. I don't post much because my

neurologist wants me to limit my time on the computer. I have been

seizure free for 15 months now due in large part to a study I was in

that uses behavior modification to control seizures. I enjoy

crocheting when my hands allow it, reading and watching shows like Law

and Order SVU, Forensic Files, Cold Case, The Closer and Criminal

Minds

Welp taht is it for me....

Huggles,

Yes, he's a great guy. He thinks I'm great for putting

up with *him*!

Not really. Since I'm not looking for a job, I'm pretty

much on the bottom of every service list there is. My

Medicare HMO doesn't cover it, and my husband's

work insurance won't cover me *at all*, and even if

they did, they don't cover home health aides either.

My 12 year old knows everything too, or so she thinks. :)

Thank you, Sue. Have not been on for a few days. As always, I appreciate you. Probably a good idea to find out about other possible groups available. I see someone individually that does EMDR, but as I keep getting retraumatized with new crimes and diagnoses, we have determined I am too fragile for it right now. We will begin it as soon as I am emotionally stronger. We do not want to take the risk of bringing up any trauma from the past..I have too much in the present. But, a group might help. I had not really thought of that. Thanks. DeborahSue <sweetsueohio2002@...> wrote: Call them and ask about some counseling programs.
