Thank you so much to everyone who has offered compliments! It truly

means the world to me.

I haven't followed the BFL book exactly, but I keep it pretty darn

close. The only things I do differently are:

1. I keep going for at least an extra 10 minutes in cool-down mode

(level 5 intensity) after my HIIT cardio. I have a tendency toward

migraines if I don't do this.

2. I go for a brisk 45 minute walk as many days as I can, in

addition to the standard BFL workouts. I consider this " extra daily

movement " rather than " extra cardio " since I sit most of the day and

rarely leave the house (I work at home).

3. I take my free day for food on Saturday, but my free day from

exercise on Sunday.

As far as eating, I'm not the picture of perfection, but here's a

typical day:

Meal 1: 2/3 Myoplex, small banana, flax oil, creatine

Meal 2: Egg Beaters, mixed veggies

Meal 3: light yogurt, cottage cheese

Meal 4: chicken breast, pinto beans

Meal 5: protein powder, oatmeal

Meal 6: cottage cheese, apple

Meal 1 is a little high on carbs, but I've found I need that after a

workout. Meal 2 makes up for it with a little less carbs. Ideally

flax oil and creatine wouldn't be in the same meal, but this is most

convenient for me. I also need to eat more vegetables but I can't

stand them. Learning to like (or at least tolerate) them is one of

my goals for challenge 2 ;-)

On most days I have around 1600 calories. A lot of people eat less,

but that just leaves me exhausted and grumpy. I worked hard to not

go overboard on free days; usually just went crazy for one meal, and

ate well the rest of the day.

One of my most important goals was/is to help others. I'm not an

expert and I hate to post too much, but I'm more than happy to help

anybody with anything I can!

Good luck with your challenge! Weeks 3 and 4 were always the ones

where I derailed in the past, because the results at that point are

so out of proportion with the effort you're making. Keep the faith

that your changes will come!

I'm 5'7 " , and lost 15 pounds so far (from 175.5 to 160.5). At the

end of week 4, I had only lost 4 lbs and my pictures looked almost

identical to my befores. The pics really started to show a change

in week 6. Once that happens, it all gets a lot easier ;)

Did you start taking creatine right from the beginning

or later on in your challenge?

I took creatine right away. I found that it really helped with my

muscle soreness compared with the times that I didn't take it

(though that could be all in my head). I'm cutting it out for my

last 2 weeks.

i took it at the beginning and it definitly helped with soreness, but

now that isn't too much of a problem, so, i'm quitting b/c of " the

bloat " and other debated health reasons...I may go back on it someday if

i ever lose all this fat

My name is , and I live in Sweden. I have six children aged 15 years down

to 7 years. Our youngest daughter, Kajsa, has since she was 3 months old in

periods had high fever, pain in her throat, neck and stomac. Now our

paediatrician thinks she has RFAPA.

I've heard from another mother here in Sweden with a child with RFAPA, that by a

age of 7-8 years, it will " grow away " . Hope this will help you al litte,

ce.

This is the first time I've heard from anyone else in Sweden with the

same concern.

Do you know how many children in Sweden that has this syndrome?

May I ask which paediatrician your daughter goes to?

Hello -Karin

has a swedish mailinglist for parents to children with RFAPA. It seems

like most of the parents have been in contact with a doctor in Gothenburg, but

Kajsa goes to a paediatrician in Lund. I recommend you to sign up on the swedish

mailinglist. Our family are still new on this problem with RFAPA, so I'm

learning every day about this diagnosis, and the swedish list have helped me a

lot.

Hello ce,

I am sorry to hear that both your girls suffer from the fevers. I

also have 2 little girls with fevers. They were diagnosed with HIDS at

the National Institute of Health (NIH) in the U.S. last year.

The difference between and the genetic fevers is that does

go away after about 6-10 years. Genetic Fevers are life long

diseases. They do not go away.

Your doctor is correct in saying that not all the mutations for the

genetic fevers have been discovered, so your children could still have

a genetic fever and test negative for it.

You or your doctor can get in touch with Dr. Kastner the lead doctor

of the NIH study. He may have further ideas for your doctor or may

welcome your daughters into his periodic fever study. That way, if a

new mutation is found, it may help to diagnose your daughters.

(There is current information in the Files section of this website, or

you can look up the NIH website too.

While anything is possible, most cases of sibling with periodic fevers

usually turn up with genetic causes, not .

My daughters are 2 years apart in age, but when the youngest started

fevering too, she often fevered with her older sister. I know it is

very difficult to take care of 2 sick children at the same time.

Hi Kriss. Try keeping track of the fever cycles. They are not always exact,

but close. At first my son did not exhibit any other symptoms, then he started

with the very swollen lymph nodes on his neck, vomiting, canker sores and

lethargy. A lot of times doctors like to try prednisone treatment ( 1 dose at

onset of fever ) to rule out . If after the dose his fever stops, this is

a good sign. With an infection the fever will come back right away. In most

cases with the fever stops completely. Although the prednisone can make

the fevers come closer together. Keep researching.

would just feel his forehead and give him Ibuprofen and he'd be fine in a day or

two. Fevers seem to be getting higher and more often.

What should I do/say/ask when I return to the doctor's office next week?

I found the source and will be picking it up this weekend.

The reason I started in the first place is because I have MS and

thought it would help to bring the energy level up, which it did for

the first month. What I did not know was that I was supposed to

increase the dosage and was in the process of moving in the city,

etc. so I gave it away.

Now that I have moved the the country in NY, I would like to start

again. The country air and relative quiet has already helped, but I

want to continue this upswing and improvement. I guess the goal is

to increase the number of 'bad' days and keep myself out of the

wheelchair. I am already been running a rabbit shelter for 3 years

and am working a 'farmette', but am hoping that the tea will help me

with the energy level.

I am looking forward to anything this group has to offer and am

excited to be a part of it.

Hi Deb,

There is no doubt in my mind that the KT will give you more energy

and overall health benefits. You don't by any chance drink diet soda

do you? If so, stop, it mimics MS and other various diseases.

Have you tried a naturopathic physician for your MS? They can

usually help you. They will give you herbs that will help your body

heal itself. If your doctor told you there is no cure for MS don't

believe it, there is, just not with drugs.

Hi , My name is Gretchen and My son is 12 1/2 with Pfapa.

was diagnosed 3 years ago and he is cycling every 3 weeks since May. We tried

the prednisone last cycle it took the fever away but not the other symptoms so

he still felt crummy and not good enough to go to school. The fever does'nt

bother him as much as the other stuff so he does'nt care for the prednisone. It

is hard for to miss school but we are so glad he is a good student and

keeping up almost straight A's. Hang in there. I'll talk to you soon?

live in Massachusetts, and we also do not recieve PCA

help or anything.

Nice! Has your spouce recieved any special training? I have not, all the things

I know has taught me. I was thinking though if it couldnt hurt to get

some training.

Ali,

I agree that it would be best to have some training. Every one of us

is different in the care that we need and I'm sure is great

about communicating his needs and explaining to you how to do things

the way he needs them done, but it can never hurt to learn basics

regarding sanitation and especially proper lifting procedures so as

not to hurt yourself.

Nope, no training at all, all of the things he does,

I've basically taught him. You do have one thing that

we don't though, your mom is here and she's very

supportive. Steve and I have no family here, none of

his are in this country and my closest is my sister in

Florida. Anyway, if you want to chat offlist feel free
