This is interesting - not had mine yet so will wait and see!

Was also expecting a letter about Hv education and the need for more HV educationalist to deliver the programme with the increased student numbers.

On another point - a recent issue of nursing times had an interesting article about District Nurse education and their difficulties which are not dissimilar to those of Hv and Sn. Whoever thought we could manage with a modular programme for health visiting , school nursing and district nursing education must have been mad and way off track!!

Thanks Ros, for drawing attention to this link from NMC, who are sending letters to all former health visitors to invite them to consider returning to practice:

Hi MargaretI don't think you will get a letter, if you are still on the SCPHN register. These letters are being sent to people who are on NMC register. known to have a HV qualification, but who have let it lapse, perhaps because they are working elsewhere in nursing and midwifery. My impression is that the letters have just been finalised, so they will be posted over the next few weeks. I think it varies from one place to another . You do need to sign up with an employer, as you need practice and a practice teacher to validate your practice experience. I think it varies but in east of england you need to register on east of england deanery website. The HV is contacted and the process is explained and university placement and practice placement all arranged in partnership. University fees are paid and bursary paid to RTP HV.Hope this helpsLizSent using BlackBerry® from OrangeFrom: Theresa Bishop <theresalbishop@...>Sender: Date: Wed, 9 Nov 2011 08:08:00 +0000 < >Reply Cc: < >Subject: Re: National Programme for Health Visiting | Nursing and Midwifery Council HiIn West Midlands, it is the University's responsibility to find the FTP student (hv) a practice placement.Best wishesTheresaSent from my iPhoneOn 5 Oct 2011, at 21:59, Cowley <sarahcowley183@...> wrote: I think it varies from one place to another . I rang the NMC to ask about return to practice courses for health

visitors. RTP courses are really only for those not on the current

bit of the register and they say it's hard to get places. They

didn't fancy my chances of getting a place unless I let my

registration lapse for a few years first.

There's never been any requirement for formal periodic HV update and

development, just the basic stuff for re-registration. In any case,

I gather that neither of my local universities are offering anything

and it's a 3 hour drive each way to the nearest RTP provider in

Bristol. Not a very accessible option and the costs would be

eyewatering.

So: I'm employable, but it looks as though I shall have to plan my

own DIY RTP.

Has anyone any suggestions about what I should include, please?

Hi in EoE we have defined 4 levels of RTP, both nursing and HV lapsed; HV lapsed only, on both registers but out of practice 3-5 years, both registers out of practice 5 years plus. The first two require Uni RTP plus placement, latter two require bespoke practice placement. By virtue have remained on register must be undertaking some HV practice so need to adapt depending on what they have been doing. We have a RTP guidance and competency passport in place. Both should be available on EoE deanery website Hope this helpsLizSent using BlackBerry® from OrangeFrom: mfisher2241@...Sender: Date: Wed, 9 Nov 2011 10:42:10 +0000Senate< >Reply Subject: Re: National Programme for Health Visiting | Nursing and Midwifery Council

Thanks Liz! That all sounds very organised. I'll go and find the

website and see how I match with the competencies.

It'll be nice to feel more confident for practice.

Dear Maggie,

If your colleague is willing, that would be very helpful. Thanks,

Maggie! She'll have a copy of the curriculum. I also see that one

of the local trusts is advertising for full time HVs, but perhaps

they'd give me a few hours practice time.

Whatever happens, it'll be interesting.
