Flood Victims Continue To Clean Up Damage

WLBZ-TV - Bangor,ME,

The rivers and streams have receeded from the flooding in Southern

York County, but the work isn't done. Homeowners are continuing to

clean up from all of the water damage.

Joyce is a retired school teacher who moved to Kennebunk from

New Jersey last year. She decided rather than investing in the stock

market to invest in a home. Now, she's dealing with severe flood

damage.

" It's very painful, " she said. " It really is. I don't even want to

face it, but it's true. It's your whole life. It's gone. "

evacuated her home on Mother's Day and returned four days

later. She found her floors had buckled, paintings were growing mold

and most of her belongings were destroyed.

She hired someone to tear out her hardwood floors and carpet to keep

mold from growing, but she said the damage is too much and she'll

likely have to demolish her house.

" I really wanted to save it. This is my life investment. I have all

my money here and but the answer is that it's too badly destroyed,

it has too much mold growing. "

Emergency Management Officials say anyone who has flood damage and

wants federal assistance needs to call FEMA. The number to call is

800-621-FEMA.
