Anne, Amylee, and , thanks for the supportive words about the appetite suppressant issue. I decided not to have the prescription filled at least until the blood work came back. Well it did come back and almost none of those problems being fat are supposed to create are an issue. The day I went in to get the results of the MRI and blood tests, my blood pressure was 116/70, y cholesterol numbers were fine (138 total, 48 HDL and 75 LDL), and glucose level was fine (85). In terms of the blood work the only abnormal thing were a borderline low sodium level and an extremely high Epstein-Barr antigen level. The latter could explain the profound levels of fatigue I have been experiencing. Given the results I am going to trust my instinct and not take the pills. I want to focus on getting the knee and pelvic pain (which is thankfully not too bad lately) under control and more activity back into my life. I don't want to give my body any more things to upset the balance than what it is already handling.

Unfortunately the MRI had less pleasant news. It suggests that there is a tear of the free edge of the cartilage in my knee and that there are possible signs of osteoarthritis in the medial compartment of my knee. I am waiting on an appointment with an orthopedist to determine how to treat the tear. Doing nothing is NOT an option. Grocery shopping is pretty much the limit of what I can manage at this point and even that is iffy.

As for non-medical happenings, I must be making a better impression than I thought with folks here. After 3 months in the department I have been asked to become Coordinator for the graduate program in our department and to become the administrator for my congregations web page (that should be interesting since I don't really know anything about web page construction but this will give me a reason to learn). I am also make slow but sure progress on unpacking boxes and putting the house together. For the first time since I unloaded the moving truck 3 weeks ago I have kitchen counters that can actually be used, I can actually sit on my couch and most of my books are on the shelves.

Thanks again for the support.

Shirley,

I'm very glad you decided not to use the appetite suppressant. It sounded like a very bad idea to me. I can't believe a doctor would want to force the issue. Sorry to hear about your knee. There are some very good arthritis drugs on the market, and many more coming out shortly, I think that is at least a sign of hope that it may be cured someday. Congrats on your promotion! There are lots of places on the internet to get help for website design. I knew absolutely nothing when I started, now I have a very simple one for us.

Hugs,

That is a big accomplishment. Glad you decided on waiting on the suppressents. Hope you get too feeling better.
