CNN had a show on memory and the Hippocampus was shown by xray or

catscan to be sabatoged by very traumatic stress event, like Post

traumatic stress syndrome. They showed that hippocampus were

markedly less responsive to stimuli after a tremendous stress event

so think that traumatic stress may actually cause brain damage and

that may underline PTSD. Actually Hippocampus glows somewhat on

catscan of people with no PTSD and with people with PTSD it

was 'dim' like as if the lights were out. I think that was in

response to a stimulant of some kind. I don't remember how study

was set up. People remember triggering event like it was seared into

their minds but don't have good memory for much after that, as if it

was burned out by this last event and so nothing can overshadow it

or seem as important. I may not be explaining it well.
