Guest guest
Its my son that has cyclic vomiting and chronic vomiting syndrome! Maybe you can borrow him for a few weeks! Its great! Once he starts throwing up..he just can't stop. He will throw up every 15 minutes until we get him to the hospital to sedate him. He could provide great exposure therapy! Ha Ha! Guest guest
Dear Amy, Thank you for the kind offer, but I think we'll stick to cat hair balls for now. Your poor son. I really can't imagine anything worse for him (and you) to go through. I guess I've learned to dread throwing up so much because of my daughter - the whole subject makes all of us tense now!! Has your son always had this? Is it related to stress? I'm just curious. When Annie was four we drove halfway across the country with my sister and her five year old son (what were we thinking?? For the last 12 hours her son kept repeating " I can't take it anymore! " ...) A few hours after we arrived at my sister's house, Annie started throwing up. She continued to throw up for five days there and all the way home. I remember calling her pediatrician from a rest stop on the Ohio turnpike to discuss whether to stop somewhere for a quick I.V. Great fun. Once we got home she stopped. Then the next weekend her dad went away on a business trip and guess what? She threw up again. Now when she is nervous she thinks she will throw up , but doesn't (knock on wood). You have been through some unbelievably hard times - I admire your spirit. Hang in there! Guest guest
Hello! Thanks for the words of encouragement! Tom's vomiting disorder is related to migraines. Its the same part of the brain that has that problem. A lot of the kids who start out with cyclic vomiting end up with migraines instead when they are in their tens. It is definately related to stress! In fact, Tom has been hospitalized with it 6 times this year and every time he has been there, it has been a Monday! School is really stressful for him like it is for so many other kids on this list. I am happy to say that I finally got him in to see a specialist on this syndrome. I am hoping that we can cut down on the number of hospitalizations by working with this new doc. We have to drive 45 minutes away to the Children's hospital instead of right down the street, but I think it will be worth it if they can cut back even one episode a year! God luck with your fur balls! Guest guest
I have only had one done so far and that was enough... My tolerance to medication is so high that they never did knock me out and I did watch the monitor... They couldn't believe I was still awake, so they kept giving me more and more meds until the Dr. said we can't give her anymore, I had reached the limit... I didn't feel any pain, just the embarrassment of it all... But once it was all over with, and I was in recovery, I finally was able to nap a little... Even though its not a test too many like to have done, it is a Nessasary test to stay safe... ((( Caring Hugs ))) Mom Thank you for this information. The only point I would like to make is HOW IT FEELS. After having 12 scopes done to me, my doctor knows how scared I am so she makes sure I fell nothing at all during the test. Let you doctor understand, you have no need to watch the monitor and have it all explained if you would rather sleep. I like to sleep during mine and remember nothing! LOL...So as far as feeling the procedure, that can be nipped in the bud! Or, if during the exam, tell you dr you want more medication and they will usually give you a higher dose. Easier that having your teeth cleaned!
