Guest guest
Dear Docs, I have a patient who fell approx six weeks ago at work. She went to an urgent care facility the day of the fall and then to her primary MD two days after that. She just saw me yesterday for evaluation and treatment. Am I correct in assuming that I have either 18 visits or 60 days in which to treat her from the day of our first visit? Is there any issue related to her seeing her MD first? I don’t need him to give her a referral for chiropractic treatment at this point, do I? Thanks in advance for your help. Sorah, DC Corvallis, OR msorah@... Guest guest
, You are correct. The count starts on your first visit. You don't need a referral until you have gone beyond the 18 or 60 days. Guest guest
I would suggest you not tell them anything unless they have sent you a HIIPA release signed by your patient. And your patient should talk to an attorney because it is illegal for an employer to fire an employee because he was injured on job or filed a Workers Comp claim. I told the woman (from the HR dept) I felt like it was a breech of confidentiality and was unable to tell her that information. She assured me it was not and that her other physician was telling them that info. Called the other Doc and he's not telling them either. Is that legal the ask for this information?? Guest guest
Judith, you must have a signed release from the patient to speak about the case. If the patient is still working at the place of employment, you can send modified work details to the employer at regular intervals. You don't have to give details of 'why' that work is modified. However, it's usually in the patient's best interest to communicate with the employer on injuries. In this case, where there is questionable legal issues, you do need to get signed consent from the patient in my opinion. Minga Guerrero DC In a message dated 6/3/2010 1:51:19 P.M.
