Boy Scout Physicals

Enclosed is a memo from the Portland Council Director of Camping , Jim Hill. DC's can still do Scout camp and adult physicals in 2009 with the old exam form, but starting Jan 1,2010 only MD,DO,NP, and PA's are authorized to do them. This is a real slap in the face to the profession and especially to those of us who have volunteered in Scout organizations . I don't know if there is anything we can do about it, and supposedly the rationale is explained in national website listed in Jims email to me. Ron,

Yes, this is true beginning with the new medical form (attached). The new form permits physicals administered by MD, DO, NP, and PAs (see the form attached). This year is a phase-in year when both the old and new forms are accepted, but only the new form will be accepted beginning January 1, 2010.

I just learned that the national head quarters for the Boy Scouts of America are no longer allowing/recognizing Chiropractors to do physicals for the scouts going to camp this year only MD, DO, NP, and get this PA’s. This is unfortunate as I usually did 90% of them in the county at a reduced rate, this is so parents would not be hindered to letting their child go to scout camp. Anyone involved in scouts knows that this is a huge positive life experience for the kids.
