Guest guest Posted June 1, 2006 Report Posted June 1, 2006 Hi , here in Enfield we are still seeing all 2 year olds, sometimes at home sometimes in clinic or groups. I know we are about to move away from universal to targeting, not sure how yet, would be interested in hearing from others how they have acheived this and if it works. I suppose we won't know that until these untargetted kids are in school with speech delays etc!!! regards Kathy soderquist Child health Programme Dear All, I am wondering what is happening to the health visitor input at the present NSF requirement for a review of a child's progress at age 2-3 years. With all the cuts that are taking place is a face to face contact still happening in your area if so where does the contact take place at the clinic or in the home? Do you see all clients or are the contacts targetted? I am trying to establish if it is realistic to observe health visitors generally at this time for research purposes. If you reply to this email it would be helpful if you could say where you work or the general area anyway. Many thanks, Quote
Guest guest Posted June 1, 2006 Report Posted June 1, 2006 Thanks Kathy that's useful to know. How much is this agenda led by the NSF or is it that you don't have the staff to keep up the face to face contacts? Guest guest Posted June 2, 2006 Report Posted June 2, 2006 Hvs and Community Nursery Nurses in Herefordshire see all children at 2 years for a developmental screen. Usually in clinic plus some targetted at home. At 3 years all children are offered a vision test and a quick review of development. Plus targetted developmental screening. Guest guest Posted June 2, 2006 Report Posted June 2, 2006 Thank you, Jane. You write HVS and Nursery Nurses does this mean that there is some division of labout here? Are HVs delegating to NNEBs some families? Guest guest Posted June 2, 2006 Report Posted June 2, 2006 Hi My sense is that many areas have readjusted their child health promotion input following Hall 4 which links to the NSF - some areas I have been working with are no longer undertaking 2 year checks and have moved to three year checks with little contact other than perhaps a letter with children and families not considered to be vulnerable after 1 year. It appears that contact is a mixture of Hv and nursery nurses but in some places I have had contact with the nursery nurses are taking responsibility for it all unless there are real needs. I think it also all links in with the info I put on SENATE a couple of weeks ago about the conflict in the policy and the pressure of children in need and safeguarding and child protection. Could send you some revised child health promotion documents if it would be helpful Regards Margaret Child health Programme > Dear All, > > I am wondering what is happening to the health visitor input at the > present > NSF requirement for a review of a child's progress at age 2-3 years. Guest guest Posted June 2, 2006 Report Posted June 2, 2006 In answering the question - my sense is the agenda is not being led by the NSF but by Hall 4 - I know that is recommended in the NSF but I hear Hall 4 mentioned not the NSF. The other thing here is that I believe the agenda and who does what is being led by the availability of staff - and I have found my self on several occasions in the last couple of months saying to a PCT - with the level of Hv and Sn staff you have including skill mix - you will not be able to meet the Children's NSF targets. Guest guest Posted June 2, 2006 Report Posted June 2, 2006 If we have assessed the family/know them well or there has been no concerns before the Nursery Nurse sees them. Targetted families are seen by the Health Visitor but we may also see others as well. Jane -- Re: Child health Programme Thank you, Jane. Guest guest Posted June 4, 2006 Report Posted June 4, 2006 Hi . In the D-SCOVOR national survey carried out at the start of last year, we asked specifically about 3 year checks. Of the 867 who answered that question, 56% said the core service included face to face contact with child (although that may have been by nursery nurse or other team member, not just HV); 3% scheduled a telephone contact and 18% by post. It was not scheduled by 23%. There were some 300 or so free comments setting out variations on the theme of scheduled checks. Also, we asked if it was always feasible to complete the whole of the core service as scheduled; 49% said it was. best wishes Bidmead wrote: >Dear All, > >I am wondering what is happening to the health visitor input at the present >NSF requirement for a review of a child's progress at age 2-3 years. Guest guest Posted June 6, 2006 Report Posted June 6, 2006 In response to your posting regarding the 2-3 year review of a child's progress. In the area which I work, a questionnaire is sent to parents/carers at 2 years and again at 3 and a half years. This may result in a contact visit depending on the response. Aside from this, specific contacts will be targeted and may occur at home or in a clinic. Loveluck Specialist Public Health Nurse - Communities East Devon PCT Quote

Guest guest Posted June 7, 2006 Report Posted June 7, 2006 What do you do about those families who you really need to reach and they don't respond to the questionaire?
