A mother claims a mold problem at her son's high school is making

her son sick, so she called News 4 WOAI for answers Thursday.

Ailshie told News 4 WOAI she believes mold build-up in the

ceiling of Southside High School is causing congestion for her son,

.

" I've got a lot of sinus pressure, a bad cough, lot of drainage, "

said.

" He's missed days because he's sick because of the school, "

Ailshie said. " The school's contaminated. "

News 4 WOAI uncovered a state inspector investigated the school

after an anonymous complaint in February. The inspector found

suspicious mold growing on numerous ceiling tiles in the school,

according to the report.

Southside ISD spokeswoman told News 4 WOAI before the

state's inspection, no staff members ever reported a problem.

No students or parents complained, said. Workers are

cleaning up the mold and replacing tiles, told News 4 WOAI.

" About 85% of the work has been completed within a week's period, "

said.

News 4 WOAI asked if we could inspect the repairs Thursday,

but she would not grant our request.

The Ailshies claim the problem is bigger than replacing tiles. They

want the school's leaky roof fixed.

Inspectors told News 4 WOAI it is not uncommon for mold to grow in

ceiling tiles, especially if a leak is not repaired. District

officials said workers are inspecting tiles in all school buildings.
