Guest guest
Forrest County Courthouse grapples with mold http://www.hattiesburgamerican.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article? AID=/20060331/NEWS01/60331008 Hattiesburg,MS Originally published March 31, 2006 Forrest County supervisors are expected to discuss strategies for dealing with a mold problem at the Forrest County Circuit Court building that could force about 50 employees – and court proceedings – to temporarily relocate. A recent diagnostic report showed mold grew at an alarming rate in the nine days after Hurricane Katrina when the building was without power, said Curtis Elliott, county maintenance supervisor. Though the extent of the damage, potential repair costs and a cleanup timeline are still unknown, Board of Supervisors President Hudson said FEMA has already agreed to help offset the bills. " They know it was a pre-existing problem, but the hurricane made it worse, " Hudson said, adding that the mold present in the building does not appear to trigger serious health problems – though some people are more sensitive to irritants than others. Though it is possible that the cleanup could be done in sections, Hudson said he does not think that will work. " All that dust and racket could bother people working, " he said.
