Guest guest
Hi Deanna i have found a helpful lecture by a Dr. Burrascano MD in NYC where he gives a really great overview of lyme disease, the tests, the conventional treatments etc. his info is nice and concise in terms of diagnosis. check it out at http://www.lymepa.org/Burrascano_2004_0424_slides_handout.pdf - if that doesnt work out go to http://www.anapsid.org/lyme/#dx and to the bottom of the page where it lists diagnosis and it should direct you to it. does the patient exhibit any signs or symptoms of lyme disease. example: stage 1 - Rash/rashes at the site of the tick bite or elsewhere on the body Fever Chills Headaches Stiff neck Sore throat Ear aches Conjunctivitis (inflammation of the eye) Fatigue Swollen glands Muscle aches Joint pains Jaw pain Nausea Stage 2: Early Disseminated (Stage II)- if Lyme disease is not treated, it can advance and spread from the initial site to the rest of the body. The symptoms include heart and nervous system problems. This can begin two to three months after the bite of an infected deer tick, and the following symptoms can occur without having the early symptoms. Palpitations (feelings of an irregular or slow heart beat) Dizziness Mild shortness of breath Chronic headaches Stiff neck Difficulty concentrating Difficulty remembering Sensitivity to bright light Bell’s Palsy (facial drooping) Pins and needles sensation in arms or legs anyhow i would start there. here is what it says about the testing: TESTING - see the the website - http://www.anapsid.org/lyme/#test I would then contact Bastyr for an integrative approach to treatment for Lyme disease, Bastyr Center at (206) 834-4100. Sources: International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society; Lyme Disease and Associated Disease Basics, by W. Fearn; Tara , ND; Centers for Disease Control; www.hsibaltimore.com/ealerts/ea200605/ea20060518.html; www.osha.gov/dts/shib/shib021103.html I think it would be great to speak to our colleagues that have a vast experience in the treatment and prevention of lyme disease. But i would start preventative work and do it aggressively (of course until you hear from our colleagues). i like to do both the nutritional and homeopathic approach for the first month. homeopathic drainage (most likely starting global drainage) may bring out symptoms i would still start gently - assess for sensitivity of the patient (i.e maybe start with 5 drops qd then work up to TID). alkalinize the diet...parasites cannot live in a highly alkaline environment - GREENS GREENS GREENS. i like the 80% vegetables and 20% everything else on my diet. also i would clean up the diet - hypoallergenic and add an UltraClear (Metagenics) or MediClear (thorne) for 10 days. UltraInflamgen from metagenics is a great product if the patient exhibits any sort of inflammation. place the patient on probiotics (i like the dairy free probiotic by Metagenics called UltraFlora. remember to place them on liver support as they detox (i like TAPS by Thorne). also get their bowels completing functioning this first month - use what you can - fish oils, fiber support and magnesium. we need to get things flushed out. it would be great if you can get them into an Infrared Sauna and doing constitutional hydros as well. and of coure COP are pertinent as well. i know this is a lot but it's better not to risk them developing lyme disease since lyme disease is known as greatest imitator disease. read through bastyr's article on lyme disease at http://bastyrcenter.org/content/view/926/ & page=1 just a thought however......from a homeopathic perspective, since you have the culprit tick, consider making a homeopathic remedy of it and giving it to the patient. i will email a colleague of mine who is an astouding homeopathic doctor/ND and has worked with Sankaran etc, and get her opinion on it. but it is a thought worth looking into anyhow if i can think of anything else i will let you know. i hope this helps, please keep us posted. i hope this message finds you well Dr. Lamise Elkhalil BSc, ND Vancouver, BC, Canada Beirut and Tripoli, Lebanon >From: " drdeanna " <drdeanna@...> >Reply- > >Subject: tick bite - Q >Date: Mon, 03 Jul 2006 23:45:03 -0000 > >Hi >Is there anyone out there that knows something about tick bites? Guest guest
Oh goodness Deena i thought the child was 14 not 4, so sorry read it too fast and didn't see she was only 4 and i realized after i sent you the email - again my apologizes. anyhow the recommendations should of course be modified to a four year old child. excluding sauna of course but lots of COP daily. you will have to get creative with detox of a 4 year old. you could still use the global drainage. for children i like arabinex (probiotic) by thorne (can place it in smoothies). switch to rice milk etc. nordic natural's ped's fish oils and a good liquid multi (like Genestra's pedia vite). you can still use mediclear with a child - just decrease the dosage and hide the taste among fruit smoothies. the parents need to modify their whole household's eating habits - so the whole family has to eat like this child eats etc. good luck and once again so sorry for not seeing the age (it totally changes up the treatment plan when treating a child best of luck Dr. Lamise Elkhalil BSc, ND Vancouver, BC Beirut and Tripoli, Lebanon >From: " drdeanna " <drdeanna@...> >Reply- > >Subject: tick bite - Q >Date: Mon, 03 Jul 2006 23:45:03 -0000 > >Hi >Is there anyone out there that knows something about tick bites? Guest guest
Hello and Ledum is classic for tic bites and for Lyme. I always use a dose of Ledun 200c or 1m for a tic bite and if you are worried past that use some immune support for a week or so. Guest guest
Deanna, Was the tick falling out, or had it not yet attached? Ticks roam around for close to a day before they decide to dig in; once they do attach, they don't just fall out. If it was attached and got scratched off, the head is likely still in the skin--take a look for it in that case. --Terry Lee Cookson, ND, LAc chronic dz Augusta, Maine White <nancywhitend@...> wrote: Hello and Ledum is classic for tic bites and for Lyme.
