Guest guest
Hi everyone - I asked one of our faculty members who keeps bees about 'bee goo' and he said, 'Oh, propolis?' I got a nice big slab of it, he seems to keep it around in his office. I had heard of propolis but as a preservative/antimicrobial. I found it on Wikkipedia and they call it bee glue. It consists of resins, balsams, waxes, essential oils and pollen and is gathered by bees and used throughout the hive for a variety of reasons, including prevention of diseases. The composition obviously varies by location. Anyway, I guess I'll put some in alcohol and see what happens. My husband, who makes soap, wants to know how it works as a fixative for EOs in soap. Guest guest
Bee goo " aka " propolis. This is a by product produced by the bees used to seal cracks or oepenings in the hives. I have also seen bugs, insects and even a small mouse that somehow made their way into the hive encapsulated in propolis. Imagine how smart bees are to embalm these intruders in propolis which actually acts as a preservative. I have personally used propolis for skin care, as a supplement and even made a hydrosol. Most bee keepers don't bother collecting propolis but if you find the right one they just might. Be well, A. I have a funny feeling this and my hyperactive immune system are going to keep me around longer than anyone would like.

There's a text file in the Files section I wrote in 2005 on bee goo. You can also search the message archives for lots more information. I've stopped using it, as I find it inferior to good old beeswax absolute. -- Sincerely, Anya Anya's Garden http://AnyasGarden.com - perfumes, aromatics, classes, consultation Natural Perfumers Guild + blog with daily updates http://NaturalPerfumersGuild.blogspot.com 1600+ member Natural Perfumery group - http://health./group//
Guest guest
My bad, you're correct. I confused bee goo with bee glue aka propolis. A. I've never dared mix them all (individually, though, I have used each on and off for various reasons with great success). You just might be able to flap your arms and fly! Here are my remedies (I'm sure there are many more): Raw honey and propolis for viruses and sore throats Propolis balm for burns and acne Local bee pollen for allergies and energy Raw honey and royal jelly for energy and fertility (yeah!) Raw honey in all of my skin care creams/toner as a humectant (also use it as a mask) Beeswax in all of my creams, balms and solid perfumes Bees have given us so many gifts. They are generous and amazing creatures! Maggie
