Hi all,

I put down the trigger for my last mega crash to this. I was already in

relapse (since 1994) when we had 2 new cars in quick succession -

October 2003 and Nov 2004. This is the worst crash of all my years of

this illness, and I will never have a new car again.

The worst protagonist was surpisingly Volvo - I should have know, even

my sisters elderly Volvo makes me unwell if the air con is on. We have

had other new cars in the past - mainly VW's but these seemed much less

of a problem (in fact no problem at all ) but they didn't have air con

units which I think makes things worse.

That new-car smell might be toxic

The new-car smell emanates largely from chemicals known as volatile

organic compounds, or VOCs, that leach from glues, paints, vinyls and

plastics in the passenger compartment. The fumes can trigger headaches,

sore throats, nausea and drowsiness.

Hi Rosie,

Do you want to try and fix it with proboost for $39.

Or at least I would hope if many others try it first and it works for them you

would think about it.

The new car smell is most everywhere indoors, just its the most concentrated in

a new car.

I would probably wait to try new stuff too, but I'm in terrible shape and have

to do something.

Hi Ron,

Do you think this chemical sensitivity would respond to proboost? It

doesn't seem to be easily available in the UK however.

On Behalf Of kengib .

An interesting story

Thanks so much. This is a good story. I've seen many with MCS cannot

tolerate a new vehicle. In fact, it's difficult for those with MCS to find

a vehicle safe for them which has off-gassed sufficiently for them to use

it.

My husband works for a dealership and is able to drive new vehicles of his

choice. I cannot ride in these new vehicles; when we need to drive

together, we have to use my safe SUV.
