The lung disease is caused by fungus spores in the soil. In the first two months of this year 1,000 cases were reported. Health officials say reported cases are a fraction of the actual number of cases. In a typical year, 2,700 cases are reported. Most people who get Valley Fever have mild or no symptoms and others can require hospitalization.
