Guest guest
It's never too late, Kenya. I just turned 39 in June... and graduated from a 2 year degree course a few weeks later. There were people at my school as old as 70! I highly encourage you to follow your instinct here... it will be challenging and help you to feel an incredible sense of accomplishment. Please keep us posted as you continue this journey! I'd love to hear what you decide to study, and remember that we'll ALWAYS be here to encourage you when you need it! Best of luck to you! Sincerely, Lydia thank you!, anjil ( sorry, it got long) I just wanted to say thank you, thank you , thank you for your post. it inspired me in more than one way. i have been trying to do this and succeeding for the most part but with too many slips for my liking. i had the mindset that if i had more than one slip per day then i was gonna fail. But, like you said if you can go without drinking and smoking than to you, it is success. well, i never thought of it that way. if i can go without a soda, and get in my workout and my water then i'm doing good. i'm in the process of weaning myself off of soda. AGAIN! ugh! caffeine headaches are majorly painful. i'm not going cold turkey cause i'd puke my guts out from the headache. but, if i can keep it to one a day, then i'll do good. i usually have about 6 or 7 cans of soda a day. i'm one of those people who used to drink nothing else. i'm also one of those people whose idea of exercise is walking upstairs from the basement after playing on the computer all day long. Riding my bike 5 blocks to the park with my kids was a workout. and we live in wisconsin, so it's not like there are any major hills to hike up. so, if i can do these things, then i'm on my way to a better me! The other way you inspired me is in the school area. For a long time i've felt the urge to go back to school. I threw away a scholarship to Duke to get married and have a family. I love my kids dearly and just had my 10 year wedding anniversary. So, it was worth it. But, lately, i feel incomplete. It's like i know i want to go back to school, but for the longest time all i've been is mommy and wife. I've worked a few jobs to help out with bills now and then but nothing major. So, i just had my 29th birthday which means this is the last year of my 20s. UGH!!!! I do not feel that old. i can't believe i'm gonna be 30 next year. anyway, the point is, i was feeling like it was too late to go to school to be anything. But, you've made me see, you're never too old to better yourself. THANK YOU for that. and good luck with everything. Kenya in wi
Guest guest
Kenya - I am 39 and also going back to school. I am changing careers and going for special education certification. This will take me about three years, but I look at it as, those three years will come and go regardless of whether I pursue something I really want or not. So, three years from now I will either have done the work and have the degree or I won't have, but the three years will still have passed! Might as well go for it. Stagnation is so easy!!. Guest guest
Congratulations, Lydia. I just attended my younger sister's graduation Friday night. She is 40, has a 5 year old at home, and graduated with dual Associates Degrees, both with highest honors! We were so proud of her! Always go for your dreams, it's what keeps you alive!
