Guest guest
I think drying it very well makes a huge difference in how long it stays fresh too. A salad spinner is an excellent investment for this reason. However, I admit to buying bagged lettuce instead of heads. I love butter lettuce the best and can only find it in bags. I do buy whole Romaine hearts though. I figure I eat so much lettuce I want to eat the kind I like the best. Plus, I find the bags last forever for me. At least longer than the date on the bag shows. I buy them in large quantities when they go on sale. I've also had great luck in finding them marked down on the final date shown on the bag. _________________ " Whatever women must do they must do twice as well as men to be thought half as good. Plus, that way it's really easy to just grab it out of the container once you're ready to eat. Lydia: I didn't know lettuce would keep LONGER that way! I thought it would wilt SOONER! I'll have to start doing that!!!
Guest guest
I've had bad luck with those bags. They always seem to taste like they're starting to spoil to me... no matter which variety I select. Sigh. Guest guest
You can also put the torn, washed lettuce in a ziplock-type bag and squeeze out all of the air (zip the bag about 90% closed, push out air and finish zipping). This works very well. -Raine
