Nine-year-old Shelby has been sick since she started kindergarten at Elementary School. Her mother, Angie , told 6 News the school is to blame. " Since day one, since kindergarten, she's been sick with allergies, asthma, coughs, you name it. She's had it. It's the mold. I have proof. I have five, six years of proof, " said. After hearing parents' concerns, the school system had tests run to determine if mold was a problem. The tests confirm an air sample taken from one classroom and a nearby hallway have a higher mold reading than one taken outside the building. The tests don't indicate whether the mold is unhealthy or dangerous, because mold affects everyone differently. Knox County schools plan on conducting more tests. Because the school is 68-years-old, parents want a new one to be built. However, Elementary is not on the list for proposed improvements in the school board's capital plan, released in March.
