I did contact the site to see if I could read some of their books.

Among the first ten I chose only one is available for sale at Amazon.

I would gladly translate a good old book on perfumery with expired

rights and then have it prefaced by one of you. Aftel*s book is among

his private collection of books on perfumery.

There's a pretty decent bibliography in our Files section, originally

compiled by Larry Starwalker. English language books predominate.

I did get a response from the owner of the site allowing me to read

one book out of the 750 he has. Better than nothing! I understand his

position, what if 800+ asked him the same favor?

I*m going to try getting the first 2 books from Amazon and the likes

first. I chose to start with:

Initiation à la formulation des parfums (see how easy it is to

understand French)

by René Laruelle

Ayrel 2002

and one of two books by Yves René Naves

Les parfums naturels

Gauthier Villars 1939

or

Technologie et chimie des parfums naturels

Masson & co 1974

I wonder if Mr. Naves is still alive? He would be 87 years old today

if he wrote the first one at age 20.

I find this compilation of books very informative and entertaining for

our purpose.

also the following sound interesting:

Essences naturelles et parfums

Delange

Armand Colin 1930

Les Essences et les Parfums

extraction fabrication

Antonin Rolet

Hachette 1908

Fabrication des Essences et des Parfums

J. P. Durvelle

J. Fritsch 1893

Réedité Desforges Girardet 1930

One of the books has a chapter on the Method of Carles:

Le grand livre des Parfums (contient chapitre sur méthode Carles,

pages 161 à 182)

Irving KAUFMAN, Ed. Minerva Vilo, 1974

ISBN : 0-525-49506-1

Traduction de Michèle Moroz

Ed. orig.: Dutton, New York, 1994.

Two books by our dear Luca Turin are there along with a book by COTY

that has nothing to do with perfume and should please the true

American in you:

Contre le communisme

François COTY, Grasset, 1928

Rien sur le parfum, mais ce livre polémique éclaire bien une des

facettes de la personnalité de François Coty.

I had a lot of fun reading all this today and am ready for the books.

The biblioparfum site owner had many visitors yesterday and would like

to become a member of the group. His name is . Watch out for a

takeover by the French.

Thank you Isabelle. The only place I was able to find the first book

on my short list was at Les Musées de Grasse, but that was the only

book they had from my list:

Initiation à la Formulation by René Laruelle who is a perfumer who

wrote many books on the subject wasn*t a bad choise, because it is

part of the syllabus at the Université de Monpellier. The book is very

recent 2002, so I will attempt to reach the editor to find out if it

was translated into English or if they need my services. If the

contents are worthwhile I will translate the gist of it for the group

without encroaching on any copyright. The second book on my short list

was from 1939, Les Parfums Naturels by Yves René Naves & G. Mazuyet, I

would have to find out when and how copyrights expire, but I believe

its fair game. I believe that Naves was a precursor to natural

perfumers today.

I think that at the end of the day it will all boil down to the trio

bergamot/rose/incense plus maybe something woody, spicy, fruity or

aromatic. hahaha.
