Guest guest
, other than the first rinse - when you rinse to make sure the seeds are not dirty - and the soak water, you can drink the rinse water, or make soup, etc. When you do your daily rinse, you are merely giving you seeds a drink. A number of the group drink the water. I use it all. I have several hanging baskets, which need water every day, especially now while its so hot. It all goes in my outdoor garden or my house plants. ew Water water everywhere, but not a drop to drink... Also, Sprout milk? Hey Sprouters - I've recently returned to sprouting, although I now live in a desert. I would like to reclaim the water used rinsing, etc, and I thought maybe some inside gardening tips or other ideas for what to to do with the water, might come from this group. I pretty much have sun all year 'round. Also: I would really like to know a novel and easy way to make sprout milk, and I'm wondering what kinds of milk like this are out there! Ideas about where to start? Thanks!
Guest guest
Before I say something... please be aware that I am a real beginner for sprouting... I heard the part of reason for rinse is to wash out some toxic stuff from sprouting.... I don't know if it is okay to reuse the water without filtering.... Guest guest
Roman, I would have to see some documentation on that. Since you can eat sprouts at any stage in their growth, I'm going to say that that is not a true statement. ew Water water everywhere, but not a drop to > drink... Guest guest
What about mold? I live in Florida, and I've definitely seen mold in my brassicas. And while I can't SEE it in the others, I wonder if it's there. Guest guest
Hi - like yourself, I also live in the desert (So Cal) and water use is restricted in many places. I use the rinse water from my sprouts (as well as dish water etc) that I catch into a dish pan when I do dishes and rinse sprouts. Â Then I use that water for plants - pots, hanging baskets and on the ground. Saves me a TON of water (no watering!!!) and allows me to do a (very ) small part to conserve. Guest guest
What your most likely seeing are the root hairs which brassicas are famous for and not mold at all.....continue to rinse as usual...and enjoy.....the only time I truly suspect real mold is when the sprouts are actually climbing out of my sprout jars..... Guest guest
J- with brasicas, make sure your not seeing tiny, tiny hair roots. Use a magnifying glass. A lot of new sprouters make that mistake. ew Water water everywhere, but not a drop to > drink... Guest guest
I guess I'm going to look into or design some sort of book-shelf garden I can water with the sprout water, hopefully something that could be gravity-watered with drip tubing. Anyone else doing that? I have one nice large sliding glass door I would love to garden with. Anyway, I know it's not specifically about sprouts exactly, not sure if it's too off-topic for here. It's funny that my sprout interest is going to lead to another project, but I'm an avid hobbyist (bee-keeping, etc) of all sorts so... it's tough to stop...
