Guest guest
February 24, 2006 H. Bruce Kruger Managing Director Practice and Policy AAAAI Dear Mr. Kruger: I am writing to you as the moderator of the Sickbuildings group and on behalf our members who have voiced extreme concerns regarding your organization's publication of an article entitled: " The Medical Effects of Mold Exposure " , by Bush, et al. Our membership is of 1725 strong and growing daily. The vast majority of our members' health have been adversely affected due to mold and/or mycotoxin exposure in their homes, schools or work environments. Over the last nine years I have become self educated due to my wife's illnesses that until recently no medical experts had been willing or able to explain. Unfortunately with mold exposures, that happens in more cases than not. Many of our members have seen at least 10 physicians before they have been able to identify a doctor who understands these illnesses. Our nation's physicians are lacking information of the viable research on environmental contaminates. I have asked many physicians and many other professionals this question, " If mold toxins can not cause these illnesses and have the affect on many lives that it has, then please enlighten us on what may be the cause? " This question has never been answered. The symptoms many of our members experience do not correlate with any thing else other than inhalation of mycotoxins due to water damaged buildings or HVAC systems. It is our opinion that your organization has been misinformed or deceived concerning the mold position paper. There are many reliable, dependable and independent research studies that are readily available and document illnesses caused by damp buildings. There are many viable scientific studies that are in direct contrast to certain institutions that have been spewing the same rhetoric for several years and have specific agendas or are unduly influenced by industry. Many of the authors of this position paper have an agenda and cite their own studies. Unfortunately the main part of their logic and/or research has been influenced by stakeholders or sponsors. This is a great conflict of interest that causes further injury to the general public. These organizations are supposed to be educating and preventing further harm to our health, instead they seem to be in it for their own best interest and at the expense of the general public. The position that has been taken by the AAAAI should really be re-evaluated. As a consultant on a public forum for the last five years, I have addressed the severe health illnesses that many have acquired after an exposure. Besides mycotoxin induced illnesses, there has been nothing to this date, that I am aware of, that affects multi-systems with multiple symptoms. Many professionals and the general public have been fed propaganda that our exposure and the illnesses we experience are feigned results of financial motivation. Please understand me and hear me clearly, this is the last thing that is on our minds. First and foremost, the most important thing (and this is all we have ever asked) is a proper and timely diagnosis and treatment so that we can recover - so that no others become as ill as we have. We would much rather have our children healthy and be productive citizens that add to our economy, instead of a liability or a burden. As a society, our main focus should be on education and prevention, so these horrendous conditions do not continue. I urge you to reconsider the acceptance of the Bush et al. paper as the position of the AAAAI. KC ( Carstens) Email:tigerpaw2c@...
