Bianca is doing too well right now to start adding anything else into

her diet. Allow her digestive system and body to adjust to her new foods

and for her digestive system to begin to heal. She's been a sick little girl

and it takes time for the body to adjust to new diet and begin the healing

process. Wait a month or so. Then you can start introducing new foods one

at a time.

Also remember what you have already learned: that is just because something

is healthy doesn't mean it's healthy for everyone and even healthy for a

certain period in a person's life. Onions are very healthy right? Well, I

have never been able to tolerate an onion. So, it's not healthy for me.

Oatmeal is healthy food (well, the old fashion oatmeal, not the instant

stuff in a package) and when soaked overnight in water makes a very healthy,

creamy and wonderful breakfast. For me it puts me to sleep. I cannot

tolerate gluten. Always remember that; healthy is relative to each

individual person. A family could have several members that require

different diets; each could be healthy but not for the entire family. I cook

two meals every night; one for my DH and another for myself.

Concerning sauerkraut from my research and my clinical experience: real,

unpasturized sauerkraut (hard to find) juice makes a wonderful probiotic and

we've used it in the past to replenish friendly bacteria in the intestines

in between meals. I've used cabbage leaves (slightly bruised and quickly

cooked as a wonderful poultice for wounds that are difficult to heal);

cabbage juice is good for ulcers, etc however there is a time and place for

it.

Another excellent probiotic is kefir. I make my own using real milk kefir

grains. Being dairy intolerant I use coconut to culture mine in and DH gets

the og raw milk for his culture. I make a healthy smoothie for him every

morning using the kefir...see

http://users.chariot.net.au/~dna/kefirpage.html

I've given kefir grains to friends who have mild to moderate GI troubles and

they have few issues now. Water kefir grains are fun to play with and I

think down the road (perhaps 6 months or so) Bianca might enjoy making her

own water kefir (if Mom lets her) and watch them dance up and down in the

glass jar and choose what she'll culture them in.

Lol just what you needed, another thing to research: giggles. It's

inexpensive, easy to make, no cooking or heating, takes me 5 minutes to make

DH's, and the real kefir grains are a one time investment.

Blue cheese if we can tolerate it (I can't do dairy) is another way to

re-establish friendly bacteria. Then we have good old burdock root tea

which is approximately 35-40% inulin which feeds our intestines. Jerusalem

artichokes are another possibility--oh Bianca might like them and you can

grow them; they look like huge lovely sunflowers (just smaller flowers and

no seeds). Look gorgeous in the garden and in the fall you dig them up like

a potato and enjoy. So many possibilities.

Back to cabbage; it can cause gas and abdominal bloating in some people. I

love a fresh coleslaw with cabbage, chickweed, watercress, some og seaweeds,

a little miso and og apple cider or brown rice vinegar, a mixture of organic

oils, some of my coconut kefir, fresh fennel, etc. That could be a meal for

me along with a can of sardines packed in water. Yum.

Hope this helps,

Rosie

See Rosie,

You have given me some other things to look at as good sources of vitamins,

and so forth. I have been reading about the cabbage. I have to say it

makes sense to me, I did also talk to my father about it. He agrees with all

that is being said here also, how good it can be for you. I am just soooooo

very afraid to try it with Bianca though. Isn't saurkraut VERY acidic.

What are your thoughts on this anyone.

I would love to try it for the powers it has, but just not sure.
