Guest guest
Hi everyone! I'm so glad I found this group! My son, Caleb, is 6 months old and was just diagnosed with scoliosis. In the past few weeks I started noticing a bump on his lower back and when I'd put him in a sitting position it would be very visually noticeable. I took him in for his six month check up and his pediatrician sent him for x-rays. The radiologist ( who admits he's not an expert on the issue) said that he thinks the curve is about 15 derees. We will be taking Caleb to a pediatric orthopedist as soon as an appointment is scheduled. My pediatrician also wants Caleb to be seen by a geneticist since she thinks it could be congenital. I don't see how it could be congenital though since he had x-rays had 8 weeks old for possible skeletal dysplasia ( which was ruled out ) and nothing was seen then. Can someone tell me what to expect with this diagnosis? What will happen at his appt. with the orthopedist? Do they treat this when they're babies or do they wait until they are older? It seems that there is not a whole lot info on the internet about babies with scoliosis and my pediatrician can't tell me a whole lot either.
