Guest guest
Rhonda how reliable are these Petri dishes? Are you using the ones from HomeDepot? I'm thinking unless one lives in a sterile environment we all have some mold spores in our buildings. I'm sure I do. Had my windows and doors open yesterday and if I'd place some Petri dishes in my home they would grow a few things. Rosie >>>Anyone know just what is considered normal on a petri dish from spores? Is my three so far tiny spots normal b/c I know a spore or so gets in from outside. Now what I'm seeing on work petri dish can't be so called normal range and not for someone already poisoned. Friend is running out and buying me another kit so I can do one more here Rhonda>>>
Guest guest
From Lowes. Think Lab One. Work place has more growing than my house now. White is about big as a dime/nickle, two tiny orange and some greenish black(this is my new home one). Work is got many growing and they ar getting bigger. White with green, blackish green white. I put another in the back down a hall yesterday so will take a couple or so days to see. Guest guest
Results that look like you have a variety are better than many of the same type, so one at home with different colors is probably going to test okay. When you get a plate with alot of one kind, then it means it may be growing inside and you are near an area where 'one type' is growing. --- In , " Rhonda " <rhondaleokitty@...> wrote: > > From Lowes. Guest guest
Shortly after I moved into my apartment about a year ago (post-mold work and mold house, 2-1/2 years ago), I managed to cross- contaminate my apartment by bringing something from my house in, or otherwise. I could suddenly feel the fuzzy stuff in the air when I breathed. I purchased two of those settling petri dish tests at some hardware store, and placed one in my bathroom and one in the storage unit that contained everything I was suspicious of possibly contaminating my apartment. I wanted to find out what, specifically, was causing me such misery, and saw this as an opportunity to identify it, as there were many different molds in my work and house. It was interesting to see about 50 little orange spots show up three days later, as well as a couple mold growths. When I got the results from the lab, it mentioned some normal outdoor mold (think it was Cladosporium), and I was pretty certain that wasn't causing my toxic reaction, so I called and spoke to the lab technician's assistant (not very knowledgeable I'm sure). I asked her what the orange spots were, she asked the lab tech, and they claimed they were mold " satellites " , and that they only count viable spores, so they weren't counted in the test. Makes me wonder... Jules
Guest guest
If they all looked the same, I would be suspicious. Perhaps you should redo test. I took a mold sample outside. I have two HUGE silver maple trees out front that creat a lot of shade and I have algae in some areas I have to clean off of front of house. I took one tree down to bring in more sun. However I did petri dish outside just because I was curious and it grew A LOT of mold but it was every color and shape imaginable and lab said it was A-okay. However my back porch had a lot of one kind of mold but less in quantity of spores but lab said too high a count of one particular type of mold, so they said results showed there was a mold problem, so it isn't the count, as much as the type of mold. Many of the same type and you probably have a colony nearby. One of this type and that type and they consider that normal. Unless all mold satelites are orange colored??? > > Shortly after I moved into my apartment about a year ago (post- mold > work and mold house, 2-1/2 years ago), I managed to cross- >
Guest guest
No, none of the 3 trays so far look anything the same. Two at house, one was horrific looking and the former Director of Health Dept. works for waterproofing company now cuz retired said BAD and he told me many schools around here had the problem and he got AB Control to remove but wonder why he didn't tell me about AB control before I discovered them myself. Long story. OK, my now dish is probably considered more normal from home. Work, well it looks like there is a colony of some kind growing many spots and the other tray will take a few days. Will do one outside soon but so far, the inside one before remediation was horrific. I'm showering nightly as well as morning now and putting clothes in a bag to wash I wear to work. Appt. Wed. wit Enviromental doc at 10:10 and will post what happens. Going to get ready for Wed. and tired as ever. here on group is meeting me there for support ETC. Thanks !! Hope I find the place!! Guest guest
Well, I know at home was toxic and got black, green, white, brown, orange and white with brownish in it and not sure what else. Work, mulit of the same type crap. Great, I know I'm doomed. I printed all the disability forms I may need for Wed. And the girl that sits up front with me keeps saying for years feels like something biting her head, Yepper, it IS. Going to get ready for Wed. Hope I can get out of bed. Bad day and wish I could crawl in a hole and stay there for a long while. Hmmm, that hole might have mold in it. IS THERE ANYWHERE TO GET AWAY FROM THIS CRAP!! I now take showers to hope not take to bed with me. I'm way tired and need a break. RC > > > > From Lowes. Think Lab One. Work place has more growing than my > > house now. Guest guest
Mold growth on petri dishes are very unreliable measures of mold in an indoor environment. I personally got a false negative reading on mine. It grew a little tiny colony, and was not significant. However, I kept reacting in that space, and trusting my reactions, went for a detection " walk " around the basement. I found another huge source of toxic type mold growing behind shower tile, only this time it was on the side next to the tile, so it was unseen. Then I had the basement gutted, patched the cement walls, sealed, painted, etc. Now I know there is no active mold down there, becasue I am not reacting, so no need to waste more money on an unreliable test. This topic has been gone into exhautively before, maybe a search of Air quality testing would find it. Several great posts on the whole science of it, and the lack of, etc.
Guest guest
Well, that is why I threw out the first dish and I'd rather got some idea than nothing. Of Course, I know it was toxic or I wouldn't be in this shape. Since doc was interested, I sent in just to see. He knows they aren't 100 reliable but still may give a lead. Heck, I have pictures of my ugly mold in air handler, etc. Didn't have to look for it and it sure found me.
