Guest guest Posted August 12, 2004 Report Posted August 12, 2004 HI, I had done some research on spina bifida as my uncle died of complications as an infant, my dd has congenital scoli and her spinal cord is abnormal. I have found a some research to make a connection between congenital scoli and spina bifida although the geneticist has told me other wise. I did find an article which mentioned a higher tendency for spina bifida for Hispanics and for people in a part of Ireland - I can't remember which part, but it was where my grandmother was from near the coast, she is from county Mayo. So my dd got kind of a double wammy as she is also hispanic. I also had found some info that suggested that positioning practices in certain countries is sometimes implicated .. one article I read blamed laying infants on their sides to sleep as a common practice in a certain country where scoliosis rates are higher. I did put all of my kids to sleep on their side. none of them got infantile scoli though. so just what I read... I am not saying that infantile has anything to do with spina bifida...I just did some research bc of my dd's spinal cord . Quote
