OMG, that is so terrible to read that sad letter. It

really makes me furious at our corrupt government.

Was the lady sick from mold from working at her job

before Katrina? I think I may have missed what made

her sick in the first place. I have also noticed

that there is hardly any news coverage of the ongoing

struggles of the Katrina victims. We also have a

corrupt, paid media in this country. They are also

criminal in not reporting what is going on, but

focusing on sensational news stories of murders,

runaway brides, missing persons, etc. If I hear

about one more time, I will scream.

All these crime stories were only reported in the

local newspapers years ago. Now they report crime so

they don't have to tell the truth on what is really

going on in our country and Iraq. Isn't this called

the dumbing down of America? Judi

Hi Jane,

I answered your post today about your illness and the

aftermath and continuing struggles after Katrina. My

heart really does go out to you because I have had

some similar experiences, but not anything as bad as

you describe. When I first saw all your symptoms I

thought back to when I didn't know what was wrong with

me and had a multitude of all those problems you

describe. I have an underlying liver disease, and was

getting unknowinly getting poisoned from toxic mold

and didn't know what was wrong with me....my immune

system just broke down like you describe. At the

time, I didn't know I had mold, and was thinking it

was my liver disease getting worse. The good news is

that I was able to escape the mold and get most of my

health back. My mold story is another long saga,

which I will spare you, but will say that I did sue

and am still waiting for a trial almost 3 years later.

Anyway, during this time of getting sick....I had to

quit work, and my boss tried to fire me as well after

working as a social worker for the school for 10

years. Then I tried to access my disability benefits

through the school, and I found out that they were as

good as bogus. (They lost my application, delayed,

delayed, and then denied) I had to finally get an

attorney and sue them to even get half of my rightful

benefits. I had another private disability policy

which I had taken out in my 20's, paid almost $50 per

month for, as I was a single parent, and was fearful

of what would happen if I got sick. Well, guess what,

that insurance company tried to deny me as well,

despite reports from my doctors, one of which was a

member of the state disability board. Needless to

say, I have totally lost faith in insurance companies.

They are mostly out for their own huge profits that

they get from denying rightful benefits to people.

But, they get away with it because they have bought

the legislators and other public officials through

their political campaigns. I have never heard

anything on the news about " reforming the insurance

companies. "

Oh, and last but not least, of course my homeowner's

insurance company, as well as the insurance company

for my condo association, wouldn't pay either for my

80,000K worth of mold and moisture damage to my condo.

This is happening to people all over the country. My

case is not unique at all. This is what insurance is

all about.....a rip off for the most part. The

government in this country does not protect us, and

there will be more Katrinas and more victims and

suffering. Corporations run this country, and their

bottom line is money and greed, not people. If more

people would stop and realize that, maybe there would

be some kind of revolt against this. This has been

going on for a long time, but has just become more

rampant and more blatant by the day. Plus, when you

have a paid, bought off and corrupt media, with

journalists afraid to say anything controversial, you

have a population that truly doesn't know what is

going on, unless they really dig for the information.

I think most people would be glad to help Katrina

victims if they really knew their plight. Of course,

then you have the factor that the average person is

also struggling with job cuts, health care costs, and

all the stress of just getting by today.

All I can say is that you are doing the right thing by

talking about what is happening to your family since

Katrina. You write very well and maybe you can get

some attention through some decent reporter. It is

pretty disgusting that you couldn't get more

congressional members to travel for free to view the

devastation. I am sure that is still so unbelievable,

that you have to see it to believe it. I know that

your story must be only one of so many out there. I

was happy to hear that your brother made it out of

there o.k., to lose homes, jobs, and then family

members is beyond the scope of the imagination.

Please keep us posted on how you are doing. Maybe

there could be some kind of organized effort to write

to congress again.....we have to keep trying.
