The last visit the said that Nates curve is around 21. The

measurement can be off as much as 5 degrees either way. (as little as

16, as high as 26)... As I just wrote 26 my heart dropped. I dont

think Ive ever put that number in writing about Nates curve before...

Okay... Im moving on...

I would like to give you a piece of advice though. If your insurance

will cover it... take her to get a second opinion. You can ask to

borrow the origional xrays or ask for a copy. Despite a possible

protest, they have to give them to you by law. Nates first x ray was

measured by an ray tech and was suppose to be 9, but when an ortho

looked at it, he said it was off. More like 19, which is a BIG

difference!! (At least to a mom!!) I have taken Nate to 2 orthos so

far. They both have agreed that its somewhere between 21 and 17. I

can live with that. For now. Taking her to get someone elses opinion

may ease your mind some as well. It did for me. It made me stop

asking myself " What if they mismeasured? What if its much worse? "

Just a thought.

His latest xray is on the PHOTOS link on the group site if you want

to check it out. Its hard to see, but its there. :) I like to see

what a mild case looks like and a severe case, just to compare my

sons xrays to. The latest one was taken laying down. His first was

standing. They said standing could make it look a little more severe,

but shouldnt change the number too much.

Well not exactly on his own.... :) He was on the sofa, and its

really soft. It helped him A LOT!! He didnt sit up until he was 7 12

months. He crawled at 6 months. He could sit for a few seconds, and

then fall over. :P

His first xray was standing and it was a much larger curve visually.

The doctors measured it the same as the laying down (both around the

same degree) I thought the same thing... the larger the ACTUAL curve

when you look at it, the larger the degree... but they said that they

measure the degree of the bone tilt and not the curve itself. I dont

know if I can explain it better. But your right... it doesnt look

like a 21 degree curve.
