I do the exact opposite of that. I always eat before weights (feed muscle) and

do cardio on an empty stomach (starve fat). Not to mention the fact that if

there were any food in my stomach during HIIT, I would definitely throw up. :-)

Some people feel fine doing weights on an empty stomach. I get all shaky and

green and dizzy. That's the main reason I eat first on weight days. It's kind of

a personal call. If you can do all your workouts on an empty stomach that would

probably maximize fat burning.

How you eat at night also affects whether you can do the empty stomach thing in

the morning. People who cut carbs at night or don't eat before bed are probably

going to have more trouble with low blood sugar and nausea during morning

workouts.

Re: Re; Newbie with questions

and everybody:

I've read it's reccomended to workout on an empty stomach when strength

training but when

doing HIIT is it good to do the same?

Yes, BFL recommends HIIT on an empty stomach, first thing in the

morning or if later in the day I believe 2 hours after eating. Then

wait 1 hour before eating. With weights, I eat immediately following

my workout.

I will ditto the faster recovery. A few weeks into my challenge, I

had that run over by a truck feeling. Now (wk 8), I just get a

great energy boost, but I do tend to get tired earlier in the

evening. Although there are exceptions, and that is when I just

come upstairs and plop on the nice COOL leather couch and drink my

water until I feel like moving my limbs again.

enough sleep when you're training this hard. You may need an extra

hour or two at night or a nap during the day if you can catch one.

Being well rested takes some of the edge off that " HIIT by a truck "

feeling. You'll also find that you recover a lot faster as your

fitness level keeps improving.

Ah ha! So that's it! I was just talking to hubby the other day about

how I am not feeling that 'energy' that some talk about when they're

working out. In fact, by the end of the week, I am practically

sleeping on my desk. I wasn't sure if I just wasn't getting used to

working out in the AM, been getting up at 5 am for about 3 weeks now

rather then working out after work, but maybe I'm simply not getting

enough sleep. I don't get to bed/sleep generally until 10:30 or so

because of the other stuff I have to do in the evenings, but last

night I zonked out on the couch at 8:30 and I feel so much better

today!

Well duh.
